Okay, okay. Let me clarify. I'm not an insensitive idiot. This was during snack time and a teenaged aid was asking me how much I had lost. I replied to her, "about a second-grader." That struck the kids as funny. We laugh a lot in my room. Some of the kids started calling out how much they weighed. I said the "poll" thing because we have been doing this in math. It was informal and completely voluntary. No one was singled out or questioned. About 4 boys called out. Believe me....as a teacher in this day and age, we have to be incredibly careful of more than you can imagine. I apologize if I have offended anyone. The gist of this thread is to be light-hearted and celebratory. I won't go into any further discussion of defending myself as per my relationship and caring for my students since 1) you don't know me or my reputation as a teacher, and 2)I do not have a guilty conscience on this issue.
