Kristine, these didn't taste like anything at all, absolutely tasteless to me. Nor did they smell coming out of the package, though I rinsed them off as directed. They did have a somewhat "crunchy" texture, when I tried a bit before cooking, but that just translated to "firm" after cooking. I just tossed them in with the veg for the last few minutes (4 or 5) of cooking, and that seemed about right.
