If you haven't as yet read Dr Mary Enig's writings or those of Sally Fallon's then please do so.

I suspect that homocysteine is probably the causative effect of polyunsaturated and unsatuarated oils in our Westernised diet which raises those imposters, the wee free-radicals, which folic acid reduces. While I have read widely on the subject, regretfully, I haven't taken detailed notes.

There are substances available that effectively remove plaque from arteries but you are unlikely to hear of those from physicians. As an example, look-up Serrapeptase (generic name) and its benefits. Try, if you wish, 'www.smart-nutrition.net' and read the article and the testimonials.

Incidently, one of the by-product of cheese-making, whey, is excellent at controlling homocysteine levels, but, unfortunately, that's usually poured down the drain for the rats' benefits.
