The whole idea of using magnesium for constipation is to use the sort that isn't absorbed. That way it can get to the bowels and do it's work, drawing in water to make things move along. Magnesium citrate and oxide are the two usual sorts for that purpose.
Also, don't take calcium, it can do just the opposite and constipate you.
