Question How harmful can a 'Cheat Day' be...?

A friend of mine who is currently following the 'BFL' program came to me with a question: "On the cheat day, should I limit myself or pig-out on whatever I please?" I told him that if he is going to have a 'cheat day' every week- he should limit himself. However, I also said that he could 'gorge' himself if he only allowed himself a cheat day once every few weeks. Now, for my question- how hurtful is the cheat day? When I say "cheat day"- I don't mean carb-up; I mean, eat anything and everything you want for a day. I find it hard to believe that if one is following a strict diet and decides to implement a cheat day every few weeks that they will put on any substantial fat. I am even more hard pressed to believe that one could put on a couple pounds of fat in ONE day. Why? I feel that the body could not deal with the barrage of calories (fat, sugar, etc.) and would have to 'excrete' the excess calories, etc. Is it even possible to put on 3-4lbs of fat in one day (even if someone happened to eat as many calories over 'maintenance' as it took). I just don't see how this could/would be possible. Am I correct in assuming that a cheat day every few weeks will not be harmful even if they did gorge them self on that day? Just thought I would get some opinions/insights so I can pass it on to my friend.
