How a Carbohydrate Revolution is Speeding up Pro Cycling

Massive carb intake!

Quote:
From the front to the back of the peloton, riders are now crushing 100-120 grams of carbohydrate per hour. That’s almost twice what they might have managed a decade ago. It’s the carbo-equivalent of a 12 oz can of Coca Cola every 20 minutes, or more than two cups of cooked white rice per hour.

Mike, are you thinking "no good will come of this"?

Because I was! Think of Mark Sisson, who really convinced me that we can't "burn it off." Even if we turn pro.

The top elite pros may be able to burn it off as they put out tremendous power over a long time. The problem that I see is that lesser athletes who can't exert anywhere near that power will be ingesting huge amounts of carbs that will have to end up somewhere on their bodies.
