but I was reading where much of the cholesterol in our bodies is in our brain. So, I wonder if all this "lower your cholesterol at all costs" isn't costing some of our elders their minds...

Well high cholesterol have been implicated in Alzheimer's disease, and in places where cholesterol is low, Demtia is also very low.

Maybe lowering cholesterol for CHD or Alzheimers is like lowering your white blood cells because you have an infection, but then doing nothing to protect your body against the infection..

Maybe it's so obvious it doesn't need to be repeated but I will anyway; I see parallels between Alzheimers and cardiac disease. They both involve elevated cholesterol but maybe cholesterol is not the culprit. Maybe cholesterol is a side-effect to the condition, not its cause. So what root problem could cause both or either condition and coincidentally be elevating cholesterol? It's more easily defined by looking at possible remedies: Definitely low carb by suppressing overall inflammation, probably CR by forcing the body to use nutrition to its best survival advantage and probably avoiding destructive vices like alcohol or smoking. So perhaps structuring one's diet to reduce cholesterol will coincidentally reduce cardiac disease and Alzheimers.

Obviously not all cases would apply. My wife's great-aunt by marriage was slim her entire life, had no cardiac problems ever but died of Alzheimers Disease at 90.

I'm new to this and trying to get a leg to fight my doctor from... I DID read back nine pages and I didn't see this discussed. I also did google searches and only found one page, but it wasn't a "first tier" medical journal, so I was trying to make sure I'm on the right road..

And I have looked at CR, just not too deeply yet.

No studies show any bad effects of low cholesterol per se.It's almost impossible to
analyze health issues with all the background
influence-FDA,pharmacutical companies etc.

I don't know how low it was, but the doctor called about my older daughter's. He was concerned it was low and she needed to eat more. She could probably be classified as following CR, except she just eats what she normally eats, just less. (she's over 18)
