flapjack/granola bar
Anyone have a Sb-friendly recipe for a chewy granola bar or flapjack (british name)?
I'm thinking I could make one using Agave nectar instead of syrup and stevia/splenda instead of sugar (if needed). I already know what seeds and fruit I'll put in it - got different ideas for this. 2/3 |
I make oatmeal bars that come out chewy. I use splenda syrups for my sweetner.
pan is 8x8 and is sprayed with PAM or cooking spray makes 3 two bar servings 1 cup old fashioned oats dry 1 cup nonfat milk powder dry 3/4-1 cup unsweetened applesauce (or ripe bananas) 1 tsp baking powder pinch of salt (optional) cinnamon to taste sweetner to taste (I use about 1.5 oz of caramel and vanilla syurps) can add a bit of ww flour if needed it should be thick but pourable options to add include chopped nuts chopped dried fruit (i like apricots and dried apples from trader joes) pour into a pan (can also be made into cookies) bake 18-22 minutes for cookies bake 20-25 minutes for bars allow to cool before cutting keeps in the fridge. |
lovely jubbly. just what I was looking for. THANKS
I've already got all kind of ideas for the various fruits and seed combinations I'll add to it. To be honest if I'm using applesauce and fruit I probably won't even need sweetener. 2/3 |

You'll be able to enjoy them soon Pandora....FYI- I did not start eating them until I was in maintenance. |
Love the Kashi bars. Tummy doesn't like the soy. LOL.

I'm not sure if we get them here or not but I have my doubts.
I'm sure I could order them off some website though . . . But for now, I'll stick with homemade. Gives me the opportunity to go wild and mix up some weird and wonderful combinations. 2/3 |
I tried this recipe today. Noy what I was expecting but I love it none the less.
I modified the recipe slightly. I didn't use any sweetener . . . the apple sauce was sweet enough. I also used a combination of rolled oats and steel cut oats (1/2 and 1/2) and added some ground seeds (next time I might add some flax. hmmm). I added dried apple and apricots. I've cut it into 6 pieces and will have one piece a day. As with the amount of fruit in it, I think one slice/piece willl count as a full fruit serving. It tastes lovely. I can see this becoming one one of my favourites. Am I right in saying that each one is 1/3 of a grain/starch serving? 2/3 |

It will depend on how many grams of grain are in each serving. I count 1 90 cal Kashi TLC bar as 1 grain serving. |
well there's 1 cup of oats in the total recipe and it makes 6 servings.
But I thought that a serving of oats was 1/2 a cup . . . or is it 1/3. If it's 1/2 then each serving is 1/3 a grain portion If it's 1/3 then each serving is 1/2 a grain portion 2/3 |

Ah...I see what you mean. I'd count it as 1/2 grain serving in that case but keep in mind that I'm stingy with grains. ;) |
