I know this is an old post, but is anyone here on this diet? It would be great to chat with someone.

I'm a PP follower originally. It's been nice over the years to see more people coming around to the idea of eating sufficient protein. Most people who are following "keto" these days are talking about how much is sufficient, Virta Health which includes Dr. Westman, is promoting sufficient protein.

I think it may even be going mainstream. My 80-year-old step-mother has even been told that she should be eating much more protein. She just told me that even though the RDA for her age is 49g of protein, she's trying to eat 70g a day--and reducing carbs in response, so she doesn't over eat calories.

I think PP isn't popular as a specific plan anymore, because it's everywhere!

But other than the protein calculation, it's a simple plan, that I really like.

Hi CityGirl.

I have been up and down with the plan, but I think that the protein requirements are important. I do feel much better with more protein and actually a few more carbs. I am aiming for 40 instead of 30. I just have to be consistent. I sometimes have to force myself to eat breakfast. I have to eat around 5:30ish. On days where I skimped on protein, I noticed the difference.

I have a copy of PP, and found it complimentary to DANDR. Used it to find a baseline protein level, as DANDR is rather overly liberal regarding protein. I can too easily down a pound of nice beef.....and that can really slow weight loss. Binging on beef though is far preferable to ice cream, which is really DANDRs point; I just tend to abuse the excuse to enjoy the beef. Now if it was fish, no risk of binging there.

I keep my copy as its rather good imho.

Im not sure I can name a program I follow these days, a bit of many similar ones, learning key elements in each.

This week my carbs have been 40-50g. I feel good and the scale started moving. I am making it my 1st goal to meet my protein levels especially for breakfast and lunch. If the scale stops moving, I will try to go back to 30g with the appropriate protein.

Good for you! I need to find my copy of PP.

These days I aim for 20, which means I hopefully end up under 30. I was okay between 30 and 40 when I first lost weight with PP, but I was in my 30s and now I'm post-menopausal, so losing weight can be a b*&%$.

I was also forcing myself to eat breakfast, but I stopped that when I realized my natural pattern was lunch and dinner. I've also been reading a lot of Dr. Fung and learned that long stretch between dinner and lunch was really good for me. I was eating around 10:30 or 11am, but that's evolved now into a more intentional, smaller eating window on TRE. So I usually eat around 12:30 or 1pm, then dinner. (If I'm eating that day at all; I've also been doing intermittent fasting.)

I too am menopausal. Forced into it before the usual age.

Needed game changers to control or lose. IF, like 23/1 made a difference. Now using 36 hrs, as Im sick and tired of this weight Im dragging around. Dr Fung to the rescue. I was sjeptical of his approach.....and eventual read enough from other sources to support Dr Fungs approach.

TRE is well understood, and by taking the same fiid but decreasing the eating window, the body clears the food and has more time in a no-food mode.

I did have HRT, but as doctors changed, it was reduced and finally taken away. Found a new guy that us supportive, even supports thyriod meds!!
Plan to ask for that one, as I told doc I would really like to have testosterone over thyriod meds and ge helped make that happen. So Im pretty sure he is ok with thyriod meds.

Funny, Im not afraid of not getting enough protein on fasting days. Muscle is protected, body goes after other cells to clean up and reuse. How cool!!!

You made me look! Not sure of your handle on amazon, but Jimmy Moore was panning several of the critical reviews and I read them all. I loved the response to him by one woman that quoted both his support and then refutation of Kimkins. I always read 1-star reviews first.

I didn't "hate" the 6-week book. In fact, I did follow the plan. But I got awfully sick of shakes and desperate to chew something.

It did however, break the plateau I was on and I was able to start losing again.
