Yoga recommendations???

I am 45 and have never done yoga but would like to try it. I know my schedule and I'm not going to be able to take classes.... but could anyone suggest a good beginner yoda dvd to purchase???

While yoga is great, I don't have an answer for you on dvd for it.
But I can tell you that Winsor Pilates dvds are great for beginners!

Rodney Yee has a great beginners DVD. I use his a.m. yoga which is good for stretching but its not much of a workout...but his line would be a good start.

I just tried Yoga for Beginners on You Tube with Esther Ekhart and loved her. She is calming and informative. I want to love yoga and I want to work toward and enjoy the benefits of those who are more experienced with it. My problem was that I couldn't find anything that explained the fundamentals and I always became frustrated. Esther is the answer for me. I love her! :D

I started with this series for seniors:

I do these, plus a few more, and quite enjoy them.

check out Shiva Rea: Yoga Flow for beginners - been reading really good things about her DVDs - whatever you do, DON'T get the jennifer aniston one - cuing is horrible and i hurt my back doing it the other day and i've been doing yoga for awhile.

Thanks for the tips..... but I have done a little research and because I've never done yoga before, I am joining a wellness center and taking their beginning yoga class once a week.

I am as flexible as a board... so they've got their work cut out for them!

just keep with it :) you will be amazed at how the flexibility changes

lovemypets Tue, Jul-12-11 14:55

I'm actually sort of embarrassed with how non-flexible I am.
Also the fact that I'll be the heaviest person there.... makes me a little scared.
But, I'm going to go through with it anyways.

DO NOT be scared....everyone will be at different levels - only person you should be worried about is yourself (everyone had to start somewhere :) )

lovemypets Tue, Jul-12-11 15:11

It's not going to stop me :)
It's just the way it is.
I know that once I do it (next Wednesday) I'll love it!
