Objectionable advertising

Hi folks, I get complaints by email, and some posted here on the forum about why a specific ad is allowed here, and that some of these ads are objectionable.

Before you complain, you need to know a few thing that may help us prevent such ads:

1. We currently run Google ads alone. If you see any popups, those are not from our site, and are installed on your computer through spyware/adware, usually installed through downloaded software and some P2P file sharing tools, or some internet "accelerators" software among other "free" software.

2. Assuming your complaint is about a specific ad from Google, we need you to tell us what that ad was. These ads depend on which pages you are viewing, and in which location you reside. I happen to be in Canada, and most of the ads mentioned in those complaints are not visible to me. What someone sees while connecting from Colorado, is not the same as in L.A., or the U.K. etc.

3. We do have the ability to block specific advertisers through Google. But we need to know which ads are in question. So to help us block any objectionable ads, please provide the folloing:
A.. The name of the advertiser, company name, product name and/or the text of the Ad.

B. The link (URL) of the Ad. Simply right click over the Ad, and select "copy shortcut" or "copy link location" (depending on your browser, and paste that link in a post here in the comments box. If you post elsewhere, I may not see it.

C. Explain what you find objectionable in that ad (sexual content, illegal supplements, deceptive/scam products etc.)

Here's an example, a complaint through the contact form with no details and no contact email.

I'm unable to identify who is the advertiser, so I can block them. It does not show up on my browser. If anyone here ever spots this ad, please send me the URL.

More Weight Watchers

Ok then - Here we go ...

Advert for weight watchers is still on the Newbies page.

Link is http://pagead2.googlesyndication.co...035311058407784

Ive got a screenshot if you still dont believe me.

Oh, almost forgot - My objection is that it goes against the whole principle of this excellent web site.

It's not about beleiving :) I do need the actual link, not the name of the advertiser. As this example shows, it is not .com, it's a .co.uk which makes a big difference to the filters.

I don't know if this would count as illigal or highly objectional if we are using spam, porn, or such as a reference. I did think it was a tad poor taste for on a low carb bored though.

"Finally, the ridiculous "low carb" diets have become popular in recent years, but of course those are just thinly disguised starvation diets. If you don't think so then check out these facts below about Atkins....

The "Atkins Diet" requires that you eat no more than 80 carb calories (20 grams of carbs) per day for the first few weeks which is a STARVATION LEVEL OF CARBS.

After that it will take approximately 5 MONTHS (20 weeks) before you are allowed to eat over 400 carb calories per day -- and any typical restaurant meal has more carbs than that. It's just another form of starving and torturing yourself, which doesn't work."

Thanks for the URL link/shortcut, the ad is now blocked, if you still see it (may take 4 hours to take effect) let me know.

Here is another Kimkins add from Google.
http://kimkinsdiet.blogspot.com/
I have had it come up three times today, the last reading this thread.
I got the URL by clicking on the add.

Annoying.

Kimkins is coming up at the top and bottom of most threads today.

NM! Sorry!

I currently see a very obnoxious ad for some kind of contact service (called BBWROMANCE) at the bottom of almost every thread I open.

The url is
http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/...1058407784&nm=2

The ad is obnoxious because it shows three girls in varying states of undress trying to look seductive (failing miserably). I am located in Sweden if that helps in anyway.

By the way, it doesn't look exactly like a Google ad as these normally have some kind of Google link in them.

Ms Arielle Mon, Sep-21-20 12:39

I realize the first post of this sticky asked for the url etc, however I was not willing to click on the ad.

It appeared today. A blue square icon then surrilic( phonically spelled as cannot find correct spelling) characters, not English alphabet.

A few hours later, same icon but words in English.

Worrysome.

Hope you can address it, but understand without details, unlikely.

Certainly makes me uncomfortable and I log off immediately.
