"Atkins taste in your mouth?"

Can someone please describe to me what the Atkins taste in your mouth that I have heard some posters refer to? That it is a way you can tell you are in ketosis? How do you tell if you have "the taste" or if you are just thirsty or have cotton mouth?

I am pretty sure I have it and have it the last couple of weeks. Not that pleasant but not really horrible either. Just curious how others would describe it.

Also, are there any other ways to tell if you are in ketosis, besides the mouth taste thing and obviously by using ketosis stix?

:p

You're eating lots of fat, but keep dropping pounds or inches. Honestly, your snug jeans right out of the dryer, are probably your best barometer of whether or not the plan is working.

I've never had 'ketosis breath' (I don't think) but have seen people describe it as being metallic, or sweet, or just plain weird. But since I just had salmon for lunch I think I got all y'all beat. :D

Metallic would describe mine - it's a weird metal like taste but if it means I'm burning fat I'll take it!! I've tried those sticks but they never show anything.

I get a sweet taste - almost as if I have been chewing packs and packs of sugary gum all day long - but haven't actually had anything sweet tasting at all. Don't mistake this with "dehydrated breath" - (the nasty smelling breath people get when they are dehydrated or sick). The two are very similar, so drink a lot of water, to ensure your not mistaking keto breath with dehydration.

I guess I'd describe mine as a sort of very, very mild "sour milk" taste, as though I ate some dairy product right before going to bed, but didn't brush my teeth afterward. But the taste remains all day, no matter how much I brush my teeth, including the insides of my cheeks, the roof of my mouth, and my tongue! I can't seem to get rid of it, so I guess I'll just have to tolerate it. If it means I'm in ketosis, I'll accept that and consider it "good." :)
