WCollier's Gym Log

Well, I finally got around to starting this log. I've always pretty much used my own journal as my gym log, hence the procrastination. Anyway, I'll try posting my workouts on the first post to make it easier for people to help me out (I like the way Built sets up her posts). Any help and/or suggestions are ALWAYS appreciated.

I've just completed a 3 month lifting cycle with no changes in body composition or any weight loss. Very frustrating, but hopefully I'll work through this. My body seems to have an agenda that it hasn't filled me in on. Anyway, quitting in frustration is not an option. So onto my carb cycling program.......

No change in measurements so far (Sept 18, 2004):
Arm: 29 cm
Waist: 75.5 cm
Abdomen: 89 cm
Hip: 95.75 cm
Thigh: 62 cm
Calf: 38 cm

OK, my menus have been less than ideal. Friday was really low calorie (with appropriate protein) for 2 reasons. I'd gained some weight from all the food during the week so I wanted to get back to normal before the high carb day started yesterday. Most likely it was water weight, but I'm a bit paranoid.

I didn't follow my high carb day to the tee b/c I had to go to the In-laws for a birthday party last night. So I tried to keep the carbs pretty low, enough to give me a decent workout during the day. I incorporated a TKD pre-workout instead of one of my high carb meals. I knew I couldn't stay on plan last night, but I was going to avoid the desserts. Of course, MIL made cinnamon buns with raisins (just for me) so what the heck was I supposed to do? Once the sugar high hit, there was no stopping me. Anyway, I feel like pooh this morning. I was awake last night with a stomach ache. Appropriate payback for being naughty! :agree:

I'm going to try to go for a bike ride this morning to clear my head. I'm also going to keep carbs/calories low today (I think I'm running on enough carbs right now to get me through my workouts) and then I'll be back to normal for tomorrow.

liftnlady Sun, Sep-12-04 10:31

hey Wanda, I would not adjust the diet just yet, just wait a few weeks.

Don't worry about the cheat meal...usually it does you good.

red1cutie Sun, Sep-12-04 12:16

Hey Y'all!

Wanda, don't worry about the carb up. Plus you had a good workout. We can eat more carbs now. :yay:

I love cinnamon buns and ribs too. :yum: I know what you mean, sometimes you just have to eat what people prepare. I remember when my Aunt and Uncle (also my Godfather) invited me over when I went away for Chrismas and she cooked all this great food just for me. I could not be rude, it wasn't worth it to make them feel bad so I ate. The was good and I enjoyed and they were happy that I was enjoying it.

And we're getting stronger! :yay:

At least now that I'm peaking in gym logs, it's got my competitive juices flowing to push me some more.
I absolutely know what you mean. When I read what Lift and Built lift I'm like I have to be able to do that one day and now the carbs are letting me.

I'm undecided what I should do. Go for the gym membership or get that squat cage (Christmas IS around the corner and I want my gifts to be exercise-related ). The squat cage would let me use barbells for so many exercise and also give me an automatic spot, which would be fantastic. Only problem is, I'd have to use the 45lb barbell b/c the cage wouldn't be wide enough so it eliminates a lot of exercises for me. OTOH, if I get a membership, I'd feel guilty not using my home gym b/c it's pretty extensive.
I wish I had a squat rack especially in winter, you know how it gets here. I prefer barbells for squatting. The dumbells get in the way. What do you mean it wouldn't be wide enough? Couldn't get a different barbell? And you can always add weight to the barbell right?

wcollier Sun, Sep-12-04 12:26

Thanks Lift & Red, it helps my guilt.

The only time I feel guilty about not eating what's prepared is at my MIL's place. My mom tries to send me my favorite foods too, but at least I've made her understand that I really need to lose this stubborn weight and she respects that.

I love my MIL dearly and she spends ALL of her life cooking with a family that don't appreciate her as much as they should. She was always so disappointed in me when I wouldn't eat what she'd prepared in my LF days, like it's an insult to her cooking. So I've come to feel guilty about it, knowing how happy it makes her when I eat her food.

It sounds silly, but I know that one day soon, she won't be around for me to enjoy her wonderful cooking. So I do the best I can when I go. At least I got her to stop putting out appetizers/junk food before dinner. That helps a bit.

Wanda

red1cutie Sun, Sep-12-04 12:36

Wanda some people love with food. That's the way they know how. I have alot of family members like that and I am happy you chose not to hurt her feelings. You know she was ecstatic you ate. Plus the kickbutt workouts will take care of it and it's not like you eat at her place every weekend.

Unless I'm missing something? Please tell me I'm mistaken.

Wanda
Aha! Okay I get it now. That's the same thing with the barbells at my gym that I can lift. They don't fit on squat rack so I can't use the squat rack.

Could you buy a narrower rack? Or is the width standard. Sorry is this is a dumb question. Or hold off on the squat rack until you are comforable with the 45 pound barbell. It won't be long Wanda.

Wanda, sometimes we have to do just what you did, and consider it an act of love when we do - if you had children and they made you a special breakfast on Mothers day - you'd just be breaking their little hearts if you didn't eat it - this was exactly the same kind of thing - a few couple of cinnamon buns the other night - is NOT a week long screwup - and we all know how disciplined you usually are.

I mentioned in my journal that I almost threw up after my workout. I feel fine today, but I was still nauseous going to bed last night. The workouts were good to sweat out some of the garbage I ate the night before. I'm back on track today.

TOM came today so I should be able to get my measurements done in about 5 days.

Hi Wanda! I won't congratulate you on your TOM. ;) Glad you're back on track.

My stomach is hurting today too from my carb up yesterday.
