GI Diet

Does anyone follow the GI Diet (glycemic index)?

Happy girl Tue, Jan-19-21 10:28

Montignac

I am on CALP but try to eat more fiber so yes and no I do more and more.
I have gotten used to fibrous grains and foods, even enjoy it.
Lots of sallads, one per day usually. I eat natural foods as much most of the time.

I grew up in a home that followed The Montignac Method. Lots of French food in our home. <3

Good post.

Have a great day!

I was a patient of Dr. Eric Westman at Duke, and remembered that he and Dr. Yancy did a study comparing a very LC/Keto diet to a low GI diet. Here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19099589/

Quote:
Conclusion: Dietary modification led to improvements in glycemic control and medication reduction/elimination in motivated volunteers with type 2 diabetes. The diet lower in carbohydrate led to greater improvements in glycemic control, and more frequent medication reduction/elimination than the low glycemic index diet. Lifestyle modification using low carbohydrate interventions is effective for improving and reversing type 2 diabetes.

The study was for the impact on diabetes, but would track if you are looking for weight loss as well.

If you are looking at the GI diet for Diabetes, there is a Diabetes section here that would have more information and other options. Dr David Unwin
In the UK uses the glycemic index and is famous for converting common foods like bread and rice into GI infographics, such as these: https://phcuk.org/sugar/

All the best,

Thanks. I actually have done the GI Diet in the past...and was very successful....over the years I got "lazy" and regained my weight....my blood pressure is rising and so I am doing my best to eat healthy again. My husband also has diabetes so working at getting him to eat better too.

In the 80-90s I was pre diabetic, I was either too spiked or too low.
I would black out from the lows. Scary!
So glad I found this way of eating. I was healed/restored 1999 by changing from a high carb to a more balanced diet with less meals in short.
Very grateful for that.

GI food is very tasty and pleasant, it is good way of eating to maintain as well.

I find the hardest part is to eat properly you have to be prepared. So now if I know I'm going to be "on the road" running to apts and such I am trying to bring healthy snacks with me.

Just over 1.5 mths in and low GI is definitely what works for me....down almost 20 lbs since Jan. 1st! I don't starve and eat well....walking for exercise is all I do right now (need to do something more here to build some muscle).

Down 26 lbs and blood pressure is good....apt with cardiologist on March 29th so hopefully he is happy and doesn't put me on meds.

Great job!
I did a version of GI diet many years ago with great success too. I think it had a lot to do with the way it was taught to me and my attitude at the time.
