My husband has been dismissed

from the Lipid Clinic at the hospital! He finally has his cholesterol under control, and we're convinced it's because of our Low Carb Lifestyle.
It was one year ago today (Wednesday, January 14, 2004) that he came home from his appointment at the Lipid Clinic with the bad news that his LDL and triglyceride levels had gone up. This was in spite of taking Lipitor and maintaining a low-fat diet.
We were very discouraged. He is in his mid-forties and is in very good health, except for the high cholesterol. I asked what we should do, and he said he thought about trying low carb.
I was shocked, but said I'd do some research.
I bought DANDR that very day, and started to read it. By evening I was convinced it was the WOE we'd been looking for.
That was the beginning of our Low Carb Lifestyle, and all the advantages that come with it. We've both lost weight, and feel fantastic! My heartburn, gas, and even asthma are better.
Now today, after his yearly visit to the Lipid Clinic, his LDL and triglycerides are finally normal, and his HDL is a lot higher. He'll be on Lipitor for the rest of his life (his problem is genetic) but we're both thrilled that we will never have to worry about his cholesterol level again.
He can go back to his regular doctor and have periodic check ups, but he was "kicked out" (his specialist said he "graduated") from the Lipid Clinic.
And we're more determined than ever to keep up the Low Carb Lifestyle.

Congratulations! I wish my husband would get into some type of program. We are both overweight. He hasn't been to a doctor since he got out of the air force almost 14 years ago! I just can't get him to go and I am so worried about him.

So glad to hear! What would we do without LC WOL? :)

That's awesome! So exciting

Have you thought about bringing him to one of our dinners?? I think he'd enjoy the lc discussion (unlike other people's SO's who would be clueless and bored to tears :p ).

Karen thought you might want to post this in the cholesterol section, too?

This is such a significant story that proves not only weightloss issues but overall health issues that are improve with a low carb lifestyle. Pass the cream somebody.

I have a question. What does the lipid clinic think of this diet?
