Returning Memeber

To all greetings,
I went to the doctors yesterday and I was told my weight has reached 394 lbs. I am 72 years old tomorrow. I promised myself to begin to loose weight. Talk about intervention. I received a Welcome on my birthday from The Low Club Forum, I joined Wed, Mar-10- 1904 and never followed up.

So on my birthday day I commit myself to try loose some weight. I am disabled and cannot exercise. I would appreciate some advice as how to begin :help:

Blessings

Hi LarryJames,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Let’s make this your best year ever! You can do it, I know you can. One step at a time, one pound at a time. Just remember, it’s a lifestyle. Best wishes on your journey...and your birthday!

The wonders of very low carb is that exercise is not the key to weight loss. It is condistently very low carb. Have a look at the Westman program as he picked up the DrAtkins baton and made DANDR a little simpler by making it stricter. You might like that one, if you havent picked a program.

There is a thread here. If you cant find it, ask, and someone will find it for you.

As for exercise, we can do more than we realize. For a long time I could only sit on edge of couch and lift my legs ,one at a time.....and that was work due to a back injury.

Hope this is helpful....

Hi, and welcome!

A low carb diet is the key to losing weight and improving health overall, in my experience! At my highest weight, I could do very little exercise, but I found some stretching exercises I could do in bed and/or sitting, which helped with mobility and mood. YouTube has some good videos; I like Bob & Brad Physical Therapy videos.

 LarryJames! Losing weight is doable and once some weight comes off you will feel so much better. In fact when you start cutting out carbs, you will feel better. It is amazing when we get the sugar and processed food out of our bodies the difference it makes. One day at a time and keep choosing fresh foods. You can do this. 💪🏼 As far as exercise, just keep moving. Best of luck and Visit us frequently. There is a wealth of information and support here.

Welcome! I just want to reiterate that this is the perfect diet for people who cannot exercise. I would encourage you to think about it, though, depending on your disability. You might be eligible for free gym membership at the Y or another gym.

For the details of the plan, I suggest buying the book. My personal preference is the 1972 Atkins book which you should be able to buy fairly cheaply. https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...9055_story.html
