Learned a secret way to Whoosh!

I met a lady on Atkins who said she stalled out and was told by her Doctor the best way to lose faster on Atkins was put NOTHING in her stomach after 6 p.m. except liquids.

So, for the hell of it , I tried it. (I just finished up my second week on induction and only lost 3 pounds in my 2 weeks). So.. on Friday night- I did it. I ate NOTHING after 6 p.m... woke up Saturday morning and had lost 1 pound. Then Saturday night I did it again. And woke up Sunday morning with another pound lost! So, I decided to test it. LAST night, I ate snacks in the evening.. veggies, cheese.. etc. stayed at 20 carb for the day. And I woke up this morning with NO LOSS. I didn't gain, but I didn't lose. So.. tonight I will not eat after 6 p.m. again and see what happens.

I am excited to try it again! It doesn't bother me not to eat at night, so I am hoping this will work for me. I am so desperate to lose the weight, and was becoming frustrated with only a 3 pound lost on induction! But now I have hit the 5 pounds lost mark and I am so happy!

Anyways, I just thought I would share this little secret!

I agree. I stop eating after 6pm and I am on a pretty darn good weight loss trend - -

I think it's just a coincidence.

I don't eat after 8 pm now..and I've been losing as well.

Hey ...maybe this can be a new challenge...I'm in not eating after 6pm. starting today :)

OHGal1415 Mon, Jan-12-04 11:18

Boy I wish I could NOT eat after 6pm. But I get home so late, I'd never have my final meal of the day!

I'm gonna try it as well. I eat dinner about 6:00, so I'll try not to eat after that. I like the idea of the challenge.

Hilary M Mon, Jan-12-04 11:21

Yeah....but where's the fun in that?

Just kidding. But I'm with OHGal...I don't get home til close to 6, so dinner is usually 6:30 or 7. I try not to eat within an hour or two of bedtime.

It probably has less to do with actual time but more with amount of sleep and the time between meals. To actually test it, you'd seemlingly have to eat the same thing every day, stop eating at nearly the same time, get the same amount of sleep, and try it for an extended period of time, whilst having a 'control' group not doing nearly the same thing... I dunno if I could get by without an evening snack... maybe

This makes perfectly good sense to me. If you normally snack in the evenings and then stop snacking in the evenings, you are eating fewer calories, so yup, that will help with weight loss.

i will have to try this. you know, i have heard MANY people saying that this works, but i never thought of it on atkins for some reason. i usually have a few nuts or jell-o or something else, sometimes a meal because i'm starving! but you know, the majority of the time i'm simply not hungry. it makes sense to me because if you're burning fat then you'll burn even more fat in the evenings by not eating anything. i'm going to try exercising during that time too. i find that water fills me up, so i'm going to try drinking water...only my mom and i eat dinner together and she sometimes doesn't get home until six, so i'm going to have to do it at seven; but that's ok because i don't go to bed 'till midnight most nights...hey, we should do a challenge for this week! if a lot of us are doing it, then it would help knowing that when we want to snack at night we could get on a thread here and air our frustrations!! i'm don't remember who the first person that posted on this one was, but great idea!

Very intersesting! I think I'll give this a try too.

It might also be due to the fact that you haven't eaten for nearly 12 hours. Even when you are sleeping, the body is continuously metabolizing something, right? :)

kevins7189 Mon, Jan-12-04 13:52

metabolizing something, or slowing your metabolism to compensate maybe
