Two questions: potassium and glycerine

1) Now that I am well beyond the newbie phase, do I still need to keep taking potassium? Somewhere I read (forgot where, sorry) that potassium supplements are recommended for helping people to adjust to a low-carb diet. I am adjusted.

2) Lots of the supplements in gel caps (E, CoQ10, evening primrose or borage oil, CLA, fish oil) come with glycerine in them. Since glycerine appears to be the ingredient that causes people problems with those low-carb bars, should I be concerned? I seem to be on some kind of supplement binge and as the pile grows I keep wondering about the fillers.

hi Allison,

Potassium .. the Drs Eades of Protein Power have this to say:
Quote:
When can I stop taking potassium?

When you have reached Maintenance, you can stop your daily intake; reserve extra potassium supplementation for summer months or periods of intense physical activity accompanied by sweating. During these times, you may still wish to take potassium periodically (say, two or three days a week.) If you have been off the regimen for more than a brief "vacation" and are restarting, remember that falling insulin will deplete potassium and you should replace it accordingly.

Important: If you are taking medication for blood pressure or fluid retention, be certain to check with your physician or pharmacist before supplementing with potassium.)
As for the glycerine (and sometimes sorbitol) in supplements .. "probably" the amount is going to be insignificant traces. The glycerine is in the gelatin coating, not in the vitamin itself.
