Not Hungry. At all.

Hi all,

I've been on Atkins since July 7, 2018. I'm doing well on Atkins, staying with induction for the foreseeable future because I've got a great deal of weight to lose.
My concern is that in the last week or so, my appetite has disappeared totally.
I assume this is from being in ketosis and my body using fat for fuel.

I know the stix are not very reliable but I've been testing and barely getting any color.

I'm reading Dr. Fung's book, The Diabetic Code, and I've experimented with short fasting like 12hrs. Haven't done anything more rigorous.

Should I be concerned that I basically have no desire to eat? Or just ride the wave and go with it.

That is the effect of ketosis. Hurray!!

You wont feel hungry, the amount of food you eat will drop, and you continue to not feel hungry and will drop weight.

Be sure to eat a couple times a day as you learn how your body responds. And get enough salt.

GOod luck!! You are off to a great start.

I've never used stix but as I understand them, they only measure acetoacetate and not BHB which is the primary product of ketosis, and ACAC levels are at their highest during the adjustment period into ketosis, not during ketosis itself. So it sounds possibly like you've been able to adjust into ketosis more quickly than most (took me a few weeks, for example).

I've never been into any sort of lengthy fasting either. In fact I lost all my weight while still eating 3 times a day. It was only this year that I managed to cut back to twice a day (16:8), and even now I've reverted back to 3 times/day while I recover from surgery.

So no, I wouldn't be concerned at all. Listen to your body: eat when you're hungry, don't when you're not. It's pretty simple. :)

This is some good info! Thanks!

Do you think I should be concerned that my overall calorie count is lower (900-1200 or so)?

I just had a complete blood test, and A1C. My A1C was 5.4 which is really good, thyroid was fine no problems, no oddities, everything else good. Got the results this past Monday. So that's great.
