LC and anti rejection medicine?

I have looked into this and cannot find much information at all. I have had a lung transplant, and have to take anti rejection meds for the rest of my life. I have been on LC for one week today. I bought test strips, and they do not turn purple, but I have lost 4 pounds. (water weight, I know) I asked my pharmacist and he said unless I was taking diuretics, LC diet would be fine. I am going to stick to it, and see what happens for awhile. I feel horrible, on this diet, I hope that part of it gets better...

Hi Melanie,
In the links I posted in your Introduction, there is a section on side effects. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb#side-effects
Are you drinking salted boullion or adding salt? That is now included in the new Atkins plans. That helped me avoid fatigue, headache, etc....a cup of boullion Mid-morning and afternoon also replaced snacks and fixed any hunger. Also consider eliminating all artificial sweeteners, they can cause headaches and gastrointestinal upset. Unsure what 'feel horrible' is so check the list of side effects, many great tips to fix what ails you :)

There is a list of prescription drugs that slow weight loss by class here: https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=453311
Is your rejection drug a steroid? If so, my thoughts on slower weight loss posted in your intro apply. The person who helped me was Jackie Eberstein, Dr Atkins nurse for 30 years and now at Heal Clinic. She has seen weight loss patients on every drug out there. Her advice to me while on a hormone drug was eliminate nuts, wine and cheese. A clean, simple low carb diet is something to consider. Hope that helps.

Later, I found a general articles on anti-rejection drug classes, there are four, one being steroids.

Check the side effects of the drug you are taking on Drugs.com and RXList.com...sometimes the lists vary a bit.

As the second article reads...they are a fact of life going forward. You learn to work with them, unless you want to explore an alternative with your doctor, but you wrote this one has been working and you feel well.

That may be an adjustment of the LC diet to its strictest food list until goal, no artificial sweeteners, all real healthy foods, limited dairy, maybe add TRE or Intermittent Fasting, etc. There are any number of tweaks to the old Atkins plan that are now part of current weight loss advice if you were under an obesity specialist's care. All the best with finding a weight loss strategy that works with your medications,

Good news...

Hi Janet thanks for all of your help and good advice... I checked with my pharmacist, he told me that none of my medicines would hurt my LC diet, He said that diuretics are the worse, I dont have to take any, so I am good to go. I ordered keto sticks, and I am in ketosis, so I am happy. I have lost 5 pounds already, probably water weight, but I am feeling better, was drinking one diet soda a day, have cut that out, and added some broth. Had bad headaches at first, and just felt crummy, but I am feeling better now. I cant wait to get back into my cute clothes, a long row to hoe, but I will get there... :)

Glad that you are already feeling better. I had a real burst of energy within a few days of starting, felt like those ketones were kicking in. ;) Doubt a medication would "hurt" doing LC but the high blood glucose as a side effect in two drugs, and maybe higher insulin, might slow weight loss. A LC diet will help you keep BG low, but you may consider using a glucose meter to check it.
