amount of protein needed

HI,
I have a question about the right amount of protein needed to support my lbm. I have read that you should eat 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per pound of lbm. However, I have also read Dr. Sears, and he recommends blocks. my confusion stems from this vast difference. if i were to follow Sears my daily block intake, calculated from the low 1 gram/pound would be 170gms per day which is around 24 blocks of protein, more then recommened for elite athletes?
Is my logic or information faulty? I'd appreciate any clarification about this.
THanks!

differences ...

It really depends on the plan that you follow ... but generally I use the 1 - 1.5g per pound of LBM rule, which means that at the upper end I need to get 300g of protein per day (LBM = 200 or so).

Remember that on LC plans, some of the protein is going to be used for energy in the absence of carbs. While it is true that fat stored and dietary fat will also be used, dieatary protein can also be converted for energy.

This is part of the reason that the protein requirements are so high.

As a strictly personal not, I always found Dr. Sears's formulas to be on the low end. I figured out the caloric value of my diet if I followed a ZONE diet by the book, and it was like 2,200.

My BMR is 3,200. Calories WAY too low ...
