Freezing?

Okay...I have NEVER been cold natured my whole life, but since starting this diet....I find myself freezing to death in the summer?

Makes no sense.

My hands and feet stay cold, at night I shiver under 3 blankets. Anyone else going through this or am I just nuts? And is this a medical problem I should see a doctor about or not worry about it.

Thanks!

Are you eating enough? I get cold when I'm doing low-cal, but it hasn't been a problem for me on low-carb. Maybe some of the gurus on the sight can shed a bit of light.....

Don't know if this applies to you Ag, but I used to get the horrible shivers if I sat outside at night and drank wine.

Nope. I stopped drinking back in January. Haven't touched the stuff since then.

Plus, since I live in Texas it is around 80 at night, so I can't figure out why I feel so cold.

The problem is you are loosing your heat resources, FAT! ha,ha:D

hi Cat, sorry you're not feeling well

Don't know how old you are, but whenever I hear a woman over 40 talking about being cold all the time, first thing I think of is low thyroid. That was MY first symptoms, along with slow resting heart rate (50), thinning hair, dry skin, fluid retention, fatigue, aches and pains, constipation, menstrual irregularitites .... plus more.

On the other hand, you mentioned it's just your hands and feet. Do your fingers and toes get blue-ish, and do they HURT. It could be Reyaud's phenomenon. Also more common in women than in men. It's an autoimmune reaction causing the blood vessels in the extremtites to constrict.

The other folks' suggestions are good, and make sense ... on the subject of fat ... are you eating enough of it .. FAT I mean?? You're not trying to do a lowFAT version of a lowcarb diet? Try adding more monounsaturated fats such as virgin olive oil and flax oil, as well as raw nuts and seeds (buy raw at a health food store - roast yourself at home right before consuming ... the high-heat used for commercial roasting, then the long storage destroys the essential fatty acids.) Ground flax seeds are a good source of both omega-3 fats, as well as fiber.

Hope you're feeling better soon .. :)

I hate to say it but the dreaded menopause can also cause people to be cold.

agonycat Mon, Jul-09-01 06:15

heheh Shelly.

If this is menopause I will take the cold flashes over the hot flashes from what I have heard.

:)

Doreen I will have the thyroid checked. Nothing turns blue or anything....it's just feeling cold. My husband says I feel normal, but to me I "feel" like I am freezing to death. He doesn't seem to think I feel cooler than he does....so I guess it is just me.

For diet purposes, I eat plenty of fat a day. I do cook in olive oil, and I do not trim the fat off any of the meat.

Thanks for the responses and advice ;)

Hello

I feel cold to though it could be my thyroid. But I also know it is from all the cold water I am drinking. Body is full of the stuff literally :p

Take care

Cath
