Montignac vs. Somersize? What is better? What's the difference?

Hi all. Since January of 2003 I've lost 30 pounds doing the eDiets.com low-fat diet. I gained 7 pounds back over the holidays and since then I just can't get back on the plan. I'm looking into Montignac/Somersize as an alternative. I did Montignac about 5 years ago and lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks then went on vacation and never could get back on it again.

My question is...what is the difference between Montignac and Somersize? I'm not interested in how good Montignac's website or billing practices are, I'm just interested in the PROGRAM and what are the main differences between that and Somersize. I live in Quebec, Canada, and because of the French Connection Montignac is really big here and I even have access to some Montignac products in the grocery stores where Atkins has yet to appear.

My main problem with Montignac is that it seemed like cooking lunch was a lot of work and I need something that is quick and easy. My guess is that Somersize is like an Americanized version of Montignac (didn't Suzanne get the idea while in France? Did she borrow/steal from Montignac in the first place?) and being an Americanized version it might fit better into my lifestyle than Montignac did. Is that an accurate guess?

Comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for your replies.

As far as I can tell, Suzanne Sommers just stole the whole thing from Montignac. Personally, I can't stand her or her opportunistic tendencies. I certainly wouldn't give her any of my money.

Anyway, I did Montignac for a while and it worked quite well for me. I looked at the Sommersize books and it looked like it was lifted straight from Montignac. There seems to be a bit of a difference here and there (Probably for copyright reasons), but nothing significant. The guiding principles are the same. The only good I can say about her system, is that she has good looking recipes and a very active community board.

I don't blame you for finding montignac unpractical if you read the French version of the books. The ones adapted for Quebec are much better. There are also two recipes books published by two Quebec nutritionists that are chock full of good recipes, using local produce and ingredients.

However, this being, said, I think that Montignac's methods are passé For example he espouses the use of fructose when there are now serious concerns about fructose being even worse than sugar. Also, the food combining method is unproven. Might even be hogwash. Lots of authors are coming out with methods backed on solid evidence and research. For example, you might check out Protein Power . I was impressed with their book.

It's her husband that's the sleazy oportunistic force behind her. She's his puppet. I noticed that many years ago when they started with all their merchandising, and he's always with her.... though that's not the only reason it's obvious. I can't stand him, never could. He latched onto her and knew exactly what he was doing, making sure not to miss THAT 'gravy train'!
