iS HEADACHE A PROBLEM WITH THIS WOE?

Hi,

This is my second day of induction and I have a really nasty little headache.

When in doubt, drink more water. Because that'll make you pee a lot, use salt to avoid leg cramps.

Some people get the Keto Flu and feel bad for a while. It's just part of the process I'm afraid.

Oh, and if you cut back on caffeine, ouch! Caffeine headaches are the worst for me.

I'll drink more water then. Thank you so much for getting back with me. I drink 4 cups of coffee per day but just been making the coffee a little weaker.

Should go away in a day or two along with the trouble sleeping. Like they said salt and water to avoid dehydration, bouillon or coffee and water with a little cider vinegar are OK too.

Since the Atkins 2010 edition, the diet includes a salted broth under "Foods that must be eaten every day". From the clinic program based on Dr Atkins:

"Bouillon: 2 cups daily—as needed for sodium replenishment. Clear broth (consommé) is strongly recommended, unless you are on a sodium-restricted diet for hypertension or heart failure."

I would have one mid-morning and afternoon, the cubes are fine, and as others have said, enough plain water. You will be losing water weight to start, and the electrolytes go along with it, replacing the salt reduces the side effects.

Thank you Janet, I will start using the bouillon each day. I love this message board! It is a treasure trove of information and the people are the best!

 Hope you feel better! You may have other side-effects listed in the link in my previous post, but there is something you can do about each one. Usually they only last 3-5 days...then you feel energetic, start to lose cravings for carby foods, are less hungry, all good things.

Thank you, I still have a bit of a headache but I do feel better than I did yesterday.

I'm two weeks in and have headaches for about 3 days. Don't know if it' related, since I would think I'd be past that by now. But I guess it can take several weeks, or even a couple months, to ge really "keto adapted".

JEY100 Sun, Nov-04-18 03:41

In one of Dr Steve Phinney's newest talks, with new Virta data, he now believes Keto-adaptation takes 9-12 weeks.

But the headache (or for me, lightheadedness) can happen anytime if not drinking enough water to thirst and adding salt. Excellent thread started by Nancy with the specifics:
