Pork Rinds in Australia??
 

I see these used so often ground up in recipes and wonder if they are available at all here. I am imagining that they come like potato chips but searched our local Woolies chip aisle and nothing!! Maybe just a USA food?

They are available here as Pork Krackles, and are manufactured by Gold Medal Snacks. The manufacturer's phone no is (02) 9725 4855.

They seem to only be available in some supermarkets. It might also be worth ringing a few different supermarkets to see if they carry them.

I found them in the corner shop here in Perth, that must mean they are available everywhere else in Australia (we get only a proportion of what is available elsewhere...or so its seems at times).

I actually saw two brands, but the one I bought is actually manufactured here in WA:

They come in a variety of flavours. 1.1gms carb a bag.
I'll have to check out the other brand to see where it is manufactured.

If you have chinese grocery stores over there they may have them in stock too.

Thank you everyone for your replies - it is good to know we do have them here so I will keep an eye out everywhere I go. Seems like they are good too just for a snack when I get the munchies crave!! Jean

Actually the plain ones (all we have here) are very er, average on their own. Much nicer spread with a nice low carb dip.
And very useful for things like French Toast, breading etc. ;)

I agree I can't really stomach them too much as a snack, but I keep them about for when folk come round and have crackers and dip, use them for instant crackers. The WA folk I mentioned before do other flavours apart from bacon (what a surprise ;))...there is also roast chicken and another one, but to be honest I not keen on any as a snack on their own, can't really tell the difference either. Good luck in your search...as you know there are a lot of other things they are useful for.

I usually buy them from an Asian food store, cost around $3 for 100g. The ones I buy are Australian made and are licensed by the NSW meat industry.These have only pork rinds, salt, vegetable oil and seasoning listed in the ingredients.

Be very careful when buying them from a supermarket, read the nutritional information because I found a packet that had high carb counts, they made theirs with flour added.

I have one packet that claims no carbs but in the ingredients they are made from 77% pork rind, vegetable oil, salt, wheat solids, wheat flour, flavour enhancer, hydrolised soy protien, flavour. These are nice but I hadnt read the ingredients before today, wonder how many hidden carbs come from the wheat products in them?

yep i've found them in coles and safeway in northcote, they are usually in the chip aisle near the peanuts etc. i don't buy them anymore as they are high in salt and i am trying to cut back on that.

Here in Brisbane they seem to be in nearly all the 7-Elevens & Nightowls... that's where I usually grab a bag when that "chip craving" gets the better of me..

btw, have lost over 30kg since starting Atkins this year and have about 9 to go to my most optimistic weight-loss goal.

On another subject, I bailed up the lady at Brumbies and asked when their low-carb bread is coming out.. she said within the next month, and that she believed it would be 1-2 carbs a slice... heaven!!!

I find them in most Coles & Safeway stores, as Sambalam has mentioned.
(Cheaper in Safeway... about $1.80, and about $2.20 in Coles).

Here in Adelaide they're available in BiLo, $1 per packet :)

Pork rinds in Sydney
 

I found some pork rinds in the asian stores in Chatswood Sydney, namely the one on the main street, (you have to walk down stairs to get this this Chinese supermarket)

They call them "spicy pork crackle" and taste absolutely delicious - much better than the ones that I tried while I was in Denmark. These are made in Australia, has Thai writing on it, but made somewhere in Warwich Farm. The MSG in it tends to make me thirsty but I try not to eat too much because the salt in it tends to make me retain water.

Ingredients:
pork rind, salt, chilli, soya sauce, spices, msg
