How many daily carbs work for you?

I know that every person is different on what works for them, but, how many do you take in and still helps you lose weight? I'm just trying to get an idea on how many others take in because I don't think I'm taking in enough and it's not helping me lose. Someone mentioned this before that if I'm not eating enough, my body may think it's in famine mode. I think I'm just nervous about taking in any but if it's hindering instead of helping, I need to up my intake. Normally its about 20-30, but sometimes I have about 50 and I freak out that it's too much, lol. other times it's less than 10. I eat, but, eat things with a lot of fiber instead of fat.

Right around 30 a day works fine for me. You might want to read the book Protein Power, by the Eades doctors. It explains why you don't really need to worry so much with the fiber. That said, if you eat a big salad each day with your meat, cheese, etc. on it, that will give you some good fiber, as will things like the flax muffins, which are fairly low carb (I make a big one that is about 3 net carbs).

I would try to avoid famine mode with more carbs, but with additional protein/fat. Instead of a lean skinless chicken breast, have a hamburger patty made with ground chuck - more calories, but you don't add carbs that way.

20-30 but for me I need mine to come from veggies. If I go too low I feel awful.
Gotta make smart choices about the carbs you have.

Why are you counting carbs on SBD? That seems more like Atkins. :)

:agree:
I think that maybe Texasgirl is confused about how we eat on South Beach?

First, we don't count carbs. We follow the meal plan guide and pick foods from the approved food lists. Both of these things can be found at the start of our weekly weighin thread.

FWIW- I have approximated the carb count for phase I and if you eat all that is allowed on it, it comes to about 60 grams per day....and really, we don't have to count!
I did just fine losing all my weight following SB as my plan of choice. I've made several modifications to it that I think all who follow it should do too. ;)

Im not following any plan. I used sb as a starting point because I didn't know what to do to go low car and my doc likes sb better for my needs and health and when I question something, I look at the sb food list. But, have not followed it to aT is why I put low carb as my plan instead of sb. I guess I can take a second look at both and try them to see for myself which I can follow better. Thanks, all of you for your help.

It'd be a really good idea for you to read the SBD book itself, if you haven't done so already. :)

You can get a copy of the book at your local library. We have all the food lists and meal plan guides here for you to use. :)

Or check out half.com they have used books fairly cheap.

i was rarely under 80 g carb even in phase 1 of SB. i only know that because i did use an online tracker for my food. definitely not required on SB to track carbs. as judy said you go by the food lists and meal plan guide for food choices and portion sizes. in phase 2 i was closer to 150 g carb.

if you are eating super low atkins level carb but not eating higher fat as well it's likely that you aren't eating enough calories. you can't really mix SB and atkins which it sounds like you are doing. you'll do best picking one plan or the other to ensure proper nutrition or you will stall quite quickly.

Yes, that makes sense. Thank you!
