The 2 Day Diet

I was wondering if anyone has tired the 2 day diet.? Its low carb for 2 days a week and the other 5 is low glycemic eating. The book is by Rodale (Prevention)

I hadn't heard of it until today. ;)

Since staying VLC all the time only keeps me from gaining, I don't think I'd do so well with the 2-day diet.

I have heard of it. I didn't buy the book, but did try a version of it with my old high carb eating 5 days a week and low carb for 2. That didn't do anything for me, probably because I was so insulin resistant.

Hi Ccat, I wonder if I could lose on it at all, because I'm somewhat insulin resistant at being older. The idea was to follow a low glycemic diet the other 5 days and its also calorie controlled at 1500. I wonder if that would work? Don't you hate trying a diet to find out it doesn't work?

Mayflowers, pretty much any diet can work, up to a point, if you follow it to a tee. I even lost weight on a typical SAD type diet. It was just that it was 5 lbs in 3 years.

The issue with diets that claim to be low glycemic is that they may or may not be, first of all. And, second, of course, is that, as you identified, they really suck if you are IR.

Have you tried going Atkins induction for an extended time, with zero cheats? It's all that works for some people. I'm not quite there. But I do stay below 20 total grams carbs on a day to day basis, and once in a month or two, I'll go up to 30.

At 65, I'm finally creeping up (creeping down?) on 150, a weight I haven't seen since my mid 40's.

Hi Mayflowers. I guess the only way to know is to try, since everyone responds so differently. You have already lost significant weight using consistent low carb, correct? Essentially, it sounds to me like you're looking to add more variety to your diet some days, with additions similar to those allowed on the South Beach Diet. If that's the case, there is a devoted support section in this forum for that diet and someone more familiar with it could probably give you good advice if you post questions there. Here is a link in that section which compares Atkins and SBD:
