Does anyone else have this problem????

Hello all! My name is Theresa and I just started the CAD program about a week ago. I find that I do not feel at all satiated unless my meals contain carbs. When I eat my complimentary meals I feel as if I've eaten nothing. Does anyone else have this problem? Then when time comes for my reward meal I binge because I've been hungry all day long. *sigh* I'm discouraged.

Also, the book contradicts itself with the veggie rule. First it says to eat 2 cups of veggies or salad at each complimentary meal, but then later it gives a list of appropriate sample breakfasts that do not include veggies. Does everyone follow the 2 cups of vegetables before EVERY meal? Is this an absolute must? On a few occasions I have been on the run and was unable to follow this guideline- so I just made sure that my meal was carb free.

And can someone clarify salad- does 2 cups of iceberg lettuce count? Isn't it all water??? Does it have to include other low carb veggies?

Thanks guys! Hope to hear from you soon!

hi Theresa-
nope. Don't have that problem. I make sure I eat plenty of veggies and protein at my CMs and I'm fine. I don't eat veggies with breakfast but know plenty of people who do. I also remember menus with veggies at breakfast but I don't follow CAD so I don't remember how it goes.
ALso-it is not 2 cups of veggies BEFORE meals-
it is a slad before/with RM dinner and balancing the protein/veggies/carbs. I eat a salad before dinner and I don't care what is in it. The salad is IMHO to add bulk/fiber/volume to the meal so you feel more satisfied.

CM meals on the run are easier if you can;t find veggies orsalad to jsut have protein. Planning is really key with this WOL>

welcome- really glad you found us!

Come back and tell us more about you -

Enomarb, glad to hear from you. You'll have to bare with me as I am new at this and don't yet know the "low carb lingo". What does IMHO stand for, and also WOL? You said you don't do CAD; what plan are you following?

About me:
I've been experiencing carb addiction for over 10 years. Over these years the symptoms have very slowly gone from something I perceived as minor to something wildly out of control. I knew that I battled with the feeling of never being satiated, & I knew that I was obsessed with sugar, but I had no idea what was wrong with me. I have seen dr.s & psychiatrists but have never gotten any answers. My mom has always been concerned with my problem- since diabetes is in my genes. A few weeks ago she expressed to me that she thought I was addicted to carbs & asked me to look into it on the internet. That's where I found the books by the Hellers. I was stunned but skeptical- as I have dealt with numerous health concerns throughout my life that have NEVER had a simple answer. I started the plan, & finished the book yesterday. I still have questions that I am hoping can be answered by you guys. I am also seeking support- for the longest time I thought I was alone in this.

Hi Theresa,

Welcome..I follow CALP - a later book written by the Hellers (and despite the title, it is for any age). CALP stands for Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Program (and the rest of the title is "A Personalized Plan for Becoming Slim, Fit, and Healthy in your 40s, 50s, 60s and Beyond").

Re the satiation issue, for me, I need fat to feel satiated. I use real butter, full fat cheese, clean sour cream (clean as in no additives or hidden sugars..I use Daisy Brand, not sure if that is available in your area or not, since I haven't lived in upstate NY in a bit now).

So..if I were dealing with cravings, I'd be sure to choose a fattier protein, like a pork steak, instead of a lean piece of fish or skinless chicken :)

You can see my food logs and some of the recipes I've found, adapted or created, in my journal.

There are threads here with an explanation of the lingo, but I'm not sure where they are. Perhaps someone will link you one.
