Singapore (II)

Hi All,

I thing the thread is getting abit too long so starting a new one here.

I started LC about 4 weeks ago, going to buy the Atkins book end of next week *smiles* (payday). Anyone know if borders at orchard carry them?

Me have not ate "lice" for one month liao. :wiggle:

bunni Tue, Sep-02-03 08:04

hi hi =)

hows yr progress? im quite frustrated n very easily tempted =(
i got the book from kino the 2003 version haven't even finished the book halfway through tho ...

i'm sure u can find the book at borders.. if not u can ask the staff

saymeng Tue, Sep-02-03 09:00

Well, so far I lost about 6kg. I started at 104kg, two weeks ago I weight at 98kg. I have not weight myself since, the bath room scale I got died on me :skull:

My target weight is about 80kg, heheh. I am 184cm tall large body frame. I am enjoying every moment of it.

Some how I am not tempted by all the carb food around me yet

debbie16 Wed, Sep-03-03 02:07

i got mine from kinokuniya. :P

Fumih_81 Fri, Sep-05-03 10:24

saymeng, welcome.

it's going to be a bumpy road ahead...But as long as you control 'the steering wheel' well enough. If you don't steer too off track, you can be on your way to an awesome turning pt in life.

there are a hell lot of 'dangerous' foods than the ones you see inside the Atkins book or a carb counter book. That's why Singapore's a food paradise. watch out...~ but don't be too restrictive...will fall off the wagon faster. :doah:

Hi Fumih_81,

Thanks for the advice, any ideas where I can get my hands on pork rinds in singapore? I do not want to cook them myself becasue it will probably mess up the kitchen, heheh. :)

Fumih_81 Mon, Sep-08-03 19:04

pork rinds can be bought at lucky plaza 3rd floor onwards...those Filipino stores. or else consider Golden Mile Complex where there are many thai stores. quite interesting to observe Filipino products...

They cost $2 a pack...some taste just right some tough-chewing...they recommend to go with this special sauce that is hot n sour...

bunni Fri, Sep-12-03 09:15

jus wondering ..

as atkins suggested in his book?

;)

Anyone interested in ordering from Bodybuilding.com

Hi fellow SG LCers :D,

Been lurking here for sometimes liao, nice to see fellow Singaporeans sharing tips on Atkins diet. Personally I have been on the diet for 1 mth and so far the weight loss has been satisfactory. I just started taking Xenardine (The original formulation, not the local version) and would like to ordering another product from Bodybuilding.com. Just wondering if anyone would like to purchase something from there. Maybe we can share the shipping cost. I ordered a thermogenic from there (on impulse actually) and it arrived in good condition. So I guess its safe to order from there. If u would like to combine purchase, feel free to post here or PM me and we can discuss further :)

Fumih_81 Sat, Sep-13-03 05:43

Chromium is a good supplement to control insulin levels. other than 'chromium picolinate', you can take the other forms of chromium found in GNC...it is present in many thermogenics such as Xenadrine.

tsk tsk, i just realised that these days my heart 'got a little tight' due to the sugary mooncakes....and right now i have not replenished my thermogenics....i hate mooncakes.

btw, anyone saw these bunch of diet drinks at bishan j8 ntuc? i bought diet mug rootbeer, diet A&W rootbeer and diet dr pepper.....diet mug tastes better than diet A&W...aiyo i thought the other way round and regretted. i shld have bought more diet mug rootbeer

bunni Sat, Sep-13-03 09:18

thanks fumih =)

i got a little confused aft wat the salesgirl at GNC told me , abt Chromium n Glutamine, she said Glutamine is more for body builders, and Chromium metabolizes glucose?

Is xenadrine good then? and permissible during induction?
sorry i hv no idea abt such supplements n stuff =P

oh where did u see the diet root beer n stuff? NTUC?
i only found diet lipton lemon tea , tangs orange, snapple ermm kool aid ..
plus they had "sweet n low" which is sodium saccharine ..
trying to look for diet 7-up but couldnt find it anywhere .. so strange ...

The Xenardine RFA-1 that GNC is selling is not the original formulation, thus effectiveness cannot be compared to the original Xenadrine. You may want to wait for the Xenardine EFX, which is the newer formulation that is without Ephedra. Cytodyne claims the newer formulation is more effective than the ECA stack based formulation (RFA-1).

bunni Sun, Sep-14-03 08:31

ahh *impressed*
but wat does it do? hehe =P

saymeng Mon, Sep-15-03 07:39

Hi All, I finally got a copy of Atkins :read2: and is actively reading it.

OK, what is thing about "Xenadrine" ?

Fumih_81 Mon, Sep-15-03 08:08

Xenadrine is a kind of thermogenic. They increase your body metabolism and gives you the maximum workout when you exercise. on the other hand they contain ingredients such as Chromium, green tea extract, white kidney beans etc...those you find in Extrim actually. They help you to stabilize your insulin levels, suppress some appetite (Zantrex 7 has this horrible after taste that naturally stopped me from eating too much).

when you start taking them, take half of the recommended portion because for some people they will experience irregular heartbeat. Xenadrine is the best so far, the worst being Hydroxycut. Zantrex 7 is as good as Xenadrine, but horrible after taste...Britney Spears takes Zantrex as well I read it somewhere.

They cost like $100 plus per bottle...lasts a month. There is an imitation brand called Synedrine. It contains the bad chromium called chromium picolinate. but i found myself wanting to go to the loo after 15 mins of taking this...but Synedrine is also not bad, i could feel the tightening of my skin...

in all, i will still go back to Xenadrine after trying various brands. yeah importantly shld get the version without ephedra or they call it ma huang. some people died of complications with ma huang.

Fumih_81 Mon, Sep-15-03 08:09

btw if anyone dunno where to get Xenadrine, you can get it from a store that is increasing their branches all over sg. It is called GNC ....

sharks, GNC changed their policy about redeeming pts. argh!

Newbie123 Mon, Sep-15-03 08:13

Xenadrine EFX is cheaper if ordered overseas. I am intending to get a bottle of CBLOCK (Carb blocker) from Bodybuilding.com. If anyone of you are interested in getting Xenadrine EFX from the same webbie, maybe we can combine purchase (to save on shipping cost) :D

Fumih_81 Tue, Sep-16-03 06:39

actually the very first supplement i tried was carb blocker. then later i moved on to xenadrine. and my verdict is still holding onto xenadrine...

how much cheaper is it to order xenadrine overseas?

A bottle of Xenadrine EFX cost about $60.80 SGD according to Bodybuilding.com. Definitely cheaper than what G*C is selling and its the new formula and not the RFA-1 (which is available ~ G*C) without Ma Huang ;)

saymeng Tue, Sep-16-03 07:08

Hi, you guys can count me out of any stuff that creates thermogenesis. My heart get irregular beats the last time i took stuff like that. :doah:

But i am open to other stuff...but not right now.

Anyway, got myself a pack of soya flour and going to expriment cooking with it, more like baking with it. :)

bunni Tue, Sep-16-03 08:49

oohh where'd u find the soya flour?
i couldn't find it at any of the supermkts =(

fumih .. why'd u say chromium picolinate is bad? seems like thats the only one they sell at GNC/nature's farm n its listed in the recommended supplements in atkins book tho ..

saymeng Tue, Sep-16-03 09:10

I got my 1kg soya flour from "PHOON HUAT & CO PTE LTD". They got a few branches all over the island depends on where you live. There is one at Sembawang MRT station.

BTW, my first baking expriment now inside rubbish dump

It is alot more easier baking with flour that soya flour.

Fumih_81 Wed, Sep-17-03 10:19

chromium picolinate is said to affect ur offspring...something to do with genes i guess. it was like a more 'recent' findings and published in the papers. you can search for this supplement in this forum, probably you will see threads talking abt this particular ingredient. but take note, just this version of chromium. other versions are absolutely fine as of now... =P

dim sum? the first thing i tot was only siew mai. thats all actually...and dont forget the siew mai contains corn starch as well.

what do y'all bake with soya flour? i never tried it.

saymeng Wed, Sep-17-03 17:33

siew mai also got sugar in them, basically most of cantonese cooking will contain sugar.

BTW, anyone knows where I can buy "Splenda"? I tried "sweet and low" for baking and the bitter taste is very very bad.

ginkgonutz Sat, Sep-20-03 22:35

Anyone tried this?

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie in this forum. Was wondering if anyone has heard of or tried Guggulbolic (another thermogenic)? You can buy it in Singapore ~ $55. See details below. Got the information from http://www.nutri-forefront.com/

Cheers,
Ginkgo :p

Guggulbolic
Metabolic Regulator by Syntrax

Syntrax believes that losing weight is of little value if most/ all of the weightloss is in muscle/ lean tissue. Their products are specifically designed to target adipose tissue and preserve lean body mass, resulting in a rapid and powerful leaning effect.

Guggulbolic is a very special, high-potency guggul extract which conforms to all Ayurvedic standards of extraction. Guggulbolic has been shown in studies to dramatically increase the rate of fat loss by increasing thyroid hormone levels. This effect is quite noticeable and one can actually feel a rise in body temperature.

Guggulsterones have been shown in studies to drastically reduce cholesterol levels, improve acne conditions, and increase thyroid hormone levels (thus greatly increasing fat loss). While some other supplement companies use a solvent extracted low-potency guggul extract, Syntrax Innnovations, Inc. uses a special high potency natural extract which conforms to all Ayurvedic criteria.

Guggulbolic Metabolic Regulator 90 caps: S$55.00

Hello fellow Singa LCers,
Have been following this forum for at lease 2 months now and hv been on & off Atkins without much success.

Actually I am not overweight (45kg) but just flabby and fat at the wrong places! I was actually on a vegetarian diet for almost 2 years!!

Started on Atkins again (3 weeks ago) and did quite well until last Sat. I busted my diet "overdose" of peanuts sob....
The effect was instant! The next day my tummy bloat like nobody's business. I was so demorlaised that I ate some more carbs, 1 apple and at least 10 seeds of ranbutan.....

BTW, is Ngoh Hiang and fried Tau Kwa a low carb food? Thought of having them as Breakfast. Got tired of eggs eggs and more eggs...

About Splenda. Spoke to Staff of NTUC, actually splenda is banned in Singapore that is why all supermarkets do not carry them now.

About Xenadrine, will it help if I do not exercise?

Fumih_81 Thu, Sep-25-03 08:15

these days been busy. i just want to say dont buy Xenadrine EFX. GNC said it contains a banned substance. that is why they only sell the RFA-1 version. i just got myself the RFA-1 again....Xenadrine is still very much the best among other similar supplements. no irregular heart beats for me...and the taste not too yucky.just that my finger will fidget a little sometimes.

Newbie123 Sat, Sep-27-03 19:05

Xenadrine RFA-1 is the one that contains the banned substance, ephedrine (otherwise know as Ma Huang). Xenadrine EFX is the new version without ephedrine. I have been on Xenadrine RFA-1 for the past 3 weeks. It gives a increased burst of energy after 30mins. Can really "feel" it. Initially got those jitters but a couple of days, my body got used to it, now is ok liao. Anyway for Xendarine, its best to cycle it. 3 weeks on, 1 weeks off (or 2 weeks on 2 week off) so that the body will not get accustomed to it.

Fumih_81 Sun, Sep-28-03 01:23

yeah it seems like they took out the ma huang substance for the sg RFA-1 bottles. So why they dont sell the EFX version in Sg?

newbie...do you take the full 4 capsules a day? Imagine there are only 60 in one bottle...and that makes it last half a month. I think I will prefer to take 2 only before I workout. Or else, it could be 1 capsule before meal. Yeah my preference will be no capsules during wkends to reduce dependency on it.
