Ha! Someone has been talking to my mother....

Whenever somebody says, "Everything in moderation," my eyes roll into the back of my skull, I just can't help it.

As a recovering alcoholic/addict I love/hate when people say this to me. Oh so I can drink and do coke in moderation?....good to know. I realize that most people are talking about food, but I have a proven history of not doing anything "in moderation"

Even when talking about food, IF I could eat in moderation while still eating even half the carbs THEY claim we need, then I wouldn't have gained so much weight to begin with.

"Any diet will work, as long as you stick to it."

Actually every diet will fail eventually unless you find some way to fix the underlying hormonal issues. Every diet will fail if it keeps you hungry all the time.

"This isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle change."

Every diet claims to be a lifestyle change and not a diet.

"I don't recommend keto or low carb for the long term."

Once you've been successful, healthy, and happy on a particular style of eating, by all means go back to eating the garbage you've been taught is worthwhile. Forget that it's what got you in terrible nutritional shape to begin with.

This!! I am living proof. Started in 2014 at 234, went down to 148, went off of Keto 4 years later shot up to 252 now back on Keto down to 232. I guess that was better than a long term Keto....

Hard to believe we haven't gotten one yet... "The brain needs X amount of carbohydrate to function properly." Benjamin Bikman pointed out in his recent alanine/protein vs. insulin and glucagon talk that there isn't really an established minimum requirement for glucose in the brain--just a minimum glucose/protein attrition. Minimum oxidation isn't the same as a requirement...

My rebuttal is that kids on the ketogenic diet for epilepsy not only need their brains to function--but they fuel substantial brain growth. Babies brain metabolism is like 50 percent of basal, adults is 20 percent--if a small child can do this trick, with my much smaller brain fuel needs, I think I should be able to scrape through.

"Artificial sweeteners are worse than sugar."

Prove it or shut up.

"Stevia is better because it's all-natural."

Cyanide is natural. "Natural" tells me nothing about its safety.

"Big Pharma"

There is an evil entity out there that exists only to kill us all and dance on our graves while stuffing their pockets with our money.

"Artificial Sugars."

There's no such thing as artificial "sugars", unless you're counting enzymatically produced high fructose corn syrup. They are artificial sweeteners and are not sugar molecules.

"A calorie is a calorie."

No, it's not.

"Processed food (is bad)."

It kind of depends on how you process it.

"Eat like your Grandmother." My grandmother had type II diabetes and was constantly trying to feed me butter tarts.

Which admittedly wasn't a hard sell.

Bone broth is a good source of minerals. It's not. It's a pretty good placeholder for a meal if you don't want to do a complete water fast. Its therapeutic value lies in being almost entirely un-nourishing.
