But then, eating a lot of the most highly processed "foods" - wheat, sugar, soy, corn, you-name-it - is also the standard level of nutrition in this era. Ima take a shot in the dark here and agree with Price when he said modern diet displaces a traditional diet and that's why we got dental caries and all the other bad stuff like skeletal deformation and stuff.

This fits with a simple study of tribal people on the islands of AK. Very simple evalualtion of teeth health: count teeth, count cavities, catagorize diet: traditional or supplemented by US government.

10-15% cavity rate on traditional diet

30-45% cavity rate on US supplemented diet

I follow dr. Terry Wahls on Facebook and she often posts articles about the microbiome.

There's also the book by Ramiel Nigel called cure tooth decay.
If you listen to podcasts I think there are some decent ones about the oral microbiome. I seem to remember listening to a couple of them a long time ago.

A couple of years ago there was a lot of info about oil pulling
with coconut oil. I did it a few times but I guess that's not enough..

lol

Read about brushing with oils.

Pulling---is that like massaging the gums????

Otherwise to get thru hungry moments I eat co and clo. While I dont and WONT swish the CLO around my mouth for even a moment as swallowing that fishy stuff is torture, CO I could swish around.

CO does have some anti bacteria and anti fungal---I use as a body deoderant and to cure athlete feet, and sticky belly button. So I know it changes the microbiome.........

I follow Dr. Danenbergs’s blog:

https://drdanenberg.com

He is a ‘nutritional periodontist’ and an advocate for a paleo lifestyle to avoid/correct mouth and dental disease and has strong opinions on the connection between gut health and the mouth microbiome. He wrote a book called “Crazy Good Living”.

I used to do a lot of oil pulling - swishing coconut oil for 10-20 min. while I was out for a walk. I can say, my teeth felt wonderful afterwards, clean and ... silky!
I could also feel when it would loosen bits of plaque, suddenly there would be a piece of grit in the liquid in my mouth. I had some build up and brownish color on the insides of my bottom teeth and after a few weeks of daily swishing, there was a marked improvement.
However, it is a hard method to keep up with. I could never find the time at home (you obviously can’t talk, and if you are doing something and get distracted you find that you’ve stopped swishing) and definitely not when husband was around, he thinks it’s ridiculous. Hence, I swished during walks.

Sounds like the swishing for 10 min allows CO time to work on established issues, and maybe the brushing method is more a maintenance step ? Trying to determine which my kids will do.....

Love his site --many recipes that my family is sure to love. Copied down 4-5 to try asap. Many ingredients I dont have. ...yet. That he lists the sources is VERY helpful, like I didnt know where to get kelp powder and now I do!

Baking SOda

Any published papers out there on the effects on teeth and oral health??

Im reading radically different info. From helping with haltosis, to improving the pH, to abrasion removing the enamel and useless.......

WOuld like to see studies. ya or nay. Nay is as important---for the nay-sayers there needs to be evidence that it doesnt work.

I don't know of any papers although they certainly might exist. What I do know is that for several years now I have been brushing with my homemade toothpaste that is made of bentonite clay, coconut oil and baking soda. I get glowing reports on the state of my teeth and gums by my dentist and hygienist.

Are you thinking of Benedict's solution, which is used to test for simple sugars, such as glucose? It is a clear blue solution of sodium and copper salts. In the presence of simple sugars, the blue solution changes color to green, yellow, and brick-red, depending on the amount of sugar. We want it to stay blue.

The only common test I can think of that turns blue is a pH test which turns blue for basic (non-acid), but is now done with strips, not test tubes.

One claim is that the enamal will be sanded away by the baking soda. Do you think the CO reduces the abrasiveness of the b.soda??
