New Tutor Session, "What is a Good Fat" 20 minutes long.
A very good overview of why some low carbers avoid all processed seed oils. For a person new to LC, eliminating all sugar, then all grains are of primary importance, but if still not seeing the results you wish, consider removing all processed seed oils, (new study, http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=469157) esp. soybean oil found in dressings and mayo, corn oil, etc.

Another terrific lecture about Diabetes, but helpful for everybody on low carb diets. Not the best production quality, unlike her TEDTalk, but great slides and information on insulin, and she is such a good speaker.

Towards the end, she reviews what her diet guidelines are (for her audience who are potential patients in a LC clinical trial) "How much protein?" Is often a question here, and her general recommendation is 80g protein for women, 120g protein for men.

Great local news story about Dr Hallberg, the LC diet, and her study. So she is still recruiting for it...perfect if you are anywhere near to Indiana University, but there is a way to participate from a distance as well. Check at her website in my previous posts about her and the study...T2s should really be under a doctor's care and when you can be in a study with an expert like her...all the better!

Very positive reporting on Dr. Hallberg's work, which can still be controversial to many in the medical field, as is Dr. Fung's work. I loved the sign "One less med." She's a light force in this protocol of health that is so simple, it's confusing to many at first.

So confusing to know what's best, isn't it? I'm T2 and even on LCHF was not getting BG numbers I wanted, but when I went on the all-potato Potato Hack diet my BG plummeted to my best readings in a long while.

Debbie, did you read Deniise Minger's latest post on why very Low Fat and low calorie can work for weight loss and health improvements like reduced BG and cholesterol? http://rawfoodsos.com
I didn't follow it all, but my takeaway was that either extreme end of macronutrient spectrum can have positive health outcomes.
http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...07&page=1&pp=15. Isn't the potato hack both LF and low calorie? Which might be great for a short term reset, but harder to pull off long term.

Debbie, I have a question about this and I could almost swear I had asked you the same thing before, but I can't find such a post so apologies if I'm repeating myself here.

A couple of years ago I tried the potato fast and had some success with it. In addition to dropping some weight I saw my morning fasting blood glucose go down into the low 80's, which was great. Unfortunately, my postprandial BG was soaring to well above 200 after each potato meal, so I decided to give up potato hacking. Have you been checking your postprandial results after your potato meals? Are they improving just like your fasting numbers?

Yes, postprandial and fasting numbers both showed improvements compared to LCHF. I know it's not a lifetime thing, but more and more I see it as *part* of my lifetime plan.

Review of Dr Hallberg's TEDtalk, author describes her as a "petite soccer Mom" which she is but it's funny. If you dont have 18 minutes...here are the highlights in Why Dr. Sarah Hallberg is My New #LCHF Heroine :

Over half a million views in 8 months! This recent review on her FB page gives an idea of the impact she has had.

Quote:
Dr. Sarah Hallberg,
Has saved my life... And I've never even met her.
As a nurse, I knew the science.. But Sarah lit the light bulb for this type 2 diabetic...

Obese... Hi BP... Hi cholesterol... Reflux..
On 3000 mg of metformin... Threatened with insulin. A1c 7.8 ... Fastings 140-160

That was one year ago.. Then I saw Sarah's Ted X u tube video..

Today, I have lost 26% of my starting weight of 156... I am now 113.
I am off not only metformin... But all 8 pills I was taking for medical issues.
I haven't felt this good since I was 30!
I am 58... And feel great...!!!
So Sarah Hallberg saved my life.

Thank you Sarah ... You've touched so many more than just the people you see at your clinic...
You are my hero!
