Doreen its interesting that you mentioned triggers. I usually don't have alcohol but I have noticed that piping hot food seems to trigger flashes and they happen much more often and are more severe when I'm running around at work, or the heater is blowing on me.

I've only had night sweats one time but it was really odd that I seemed to be sweating in places I don't have sweat glands.

Our body's thermometer is broken, basically, so things that make you hot, like you mentioned, will set off a hot flash. I've started taking the supplements Dr Atkins recommended for menopause in his Age Defying book. I haven't been taking them long enough to know yet if they're working.

Hope you find some relief!

Came in to say the same thing; that's got to be illegal, I would think, especially if you do not get breaks. And I think breaks are required after a certain number of hours. Any experts?

The company CAN NOT do that if nature calls, you go but just don't be long in the bathroom. if management feels you guys are running to the bathroom to socialize and take long breaks, then sure I can see them saying it, but it is illegal. NO ONE can stop you from using the bathroom when needed.

hot flashes. I got them. if I eat sugar of any kind they get way worse so LC is the way that helped me control them better.

black colash etc. didn't work for me.

didn't try the vit. E but I sure am now. night time is bad before I fall alseep. I rarely wake up but getting to sleep is rough. blanket on and off, fanning myself, restless legs and all that cruddy feeling when all you want to do is sleep.

After about 2 weeks of vitamin E I haven't had another hot flash or night sweat. Its amazing. One day I had to stop and think why I was taking vitamin E.

Yes, please! I'd love to know this, too. I started on taking 400iu d-alpha tocopherol (which, according to my research online, is preferred to dl-alpha?) Is this enough and/or should I take the mixed tocopherols type?

nawchem, you should take a look at the OSHA regs. It certainly sounds like your employer is in violation of the law. - http://www.usfosha.com/employee-lab...-find-them.aspx

"employers are required to provide their employees with toilet facilities separated for each sex in all places of employment. This standard is interpreted by OSHA to say that “employees will not suffer adverse health effects that can result if toilets are not available when employees need them. Individuals vary significantly in the frequency…” and explains that many factors can affect the frequency including the fact that medical studies show women need to urinate more frequently than men."

Here's a study from pubmed. They used 400 but don't say what kind of Vit. E. The study suggests it works. It's old - from 2007.

Thanks for the link, Lizzy- I seem to be having pretty good results from taking a 400iu capsule twice daily. If I wake up from a hot flash, it's only maybe once a night and nowhere near as severe as they were. And I feel safer taking this than I did with the black cohosh as far as my liver is concerned, since i'm also taking Lipitor.

KV - good to hear it's working for you and others. I'm going to try Vitamin E. I'll research the difference between the two kinds. I've been taking Estrovera, EPO and sometimes Red Raspberry. I still have them off and on - so annoying to have interrupted sleep. Hot, cold and clammy, hot, etc.

What is it about being inclined that brings them on????

If men had this type of symptom there would be a cure - IMHO.

I swear by golden flax. Once I got on a regular routine of eating a MIM every few days with golden flax/almondmeal I cut way, way down on hot flashes. A friend of mine was having almost continuous episodes and I suggested flax to her...she has cut down 50%. Here is a link to a Mayo Clinic study
http://www.lifeextensionvitamins.com/08macltrfifl.html
However, Mayo is now apparently saying flax does not work...What?

Worked great for me...!!!!

Flax is good but if you have thyroid issues it may be a problem.

Vitamin E is usually derived from soy so I have to hunt around - I'm allergic. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.
