163.8 (from 164, 12/28/16)
19.61 per mile (12/29/2016)

Doing what's comfortable for my first day back in:

20 Torso Track
10 squats
10 alternating lunges, 5 per side (I think these are going to be the most help with incline hiking ability)
15 bridges
15 Mr. Sandman
30 elbow squats
Weighted arm exercises, 3 lbs:
10 Back Drops (elbows up)
6 Barbells
12 Bent arm lifts (seated, elbows on knees)
8 Pushouts
10 Chicken Wings
10 per side rowing

10 Hand Squeezes (hold last one for 10)

Hi Kat! Thanks! I'll have to visit your journal and see what's up.

I got out of bed today and was SO SORE. I can't believe I am feeling this much stiffness and pain with so little of a workout.First thing I thought when I stood up getting out of bed was, I. Am. 90. (really 64)

All I did was get dressed and head out the door to meet up with my cousin's ex. (we are a family of broken marriages, if nothing else) We spent a couple of hours together in front of a local health food place (they have patio tables and chairs), sitting just barely out of the rain. It was nice. My hair went super-curl and it's amazing looking. I cannot get it to look like that, ever. Even if I try to mimic rain with a spray bottle.

I didn't feel like walking 2 miles in the rain (I forgot my rain jacket in Vegas, but I can't really blame it on that) and I am too sore to do any of my home exercises. I should be improved by tomorrow. i figure for a while I will do home exercises one day, and a brisk 2+mile walk the next. When that stuff gets too easy I'll head back to the gym.

164.6 (from 164, 12/28/16, >163.8)
19.61 per mile (12/29/2016)

Likely water weight due to eating beans, a tortilla and flan last night.

30 Torso Track
10 squats
12 alternating lunges, 6 per side
30 bridges
30 Mr. Sandman - made my calk and bottom of foot numb - boooo
30 elbow squats
Weighted arm exercises, 3 lbs:
13 Back Drops (elbows up)
7 Barbells
18 Bent arm lifts (seated, elbows on knees)
12 Pushouts
16 Chicken Wings
10 per side rowing (pain in left shoulder)
5 leg lifts, side-lying

14 Hand Squeezes (hold last one for 10)

editing to add: I just went to my recipes (2nd post in my journal) to see what I could veganize. In doing so, I re-read my first post. I'm pretty much at the same point I was a year ago. I still think working on discipline is the most important thing in getting healthy. I didn't follow through last year.

I listened to a podcast on my way back from Vegas in which the speaker said, it's a myth that you have to retain motivation. If you wake up and don't feel motivated, you can lose your day. What makes things happen is discipline - followed by action, until it's a habit. DISCIPLINE YOURSELF.

162.6 (from 164, 12/28/16, >163.8>164.6)
19.44 per mile (12/29/2016) >19.44

2.1 miles, 19.44 minutes per mile

So sore! Squats and lunges are killing my thighs. Oh well. It'll eventually stop but I've been going downstairs wincing a bit.

What else did I do? Planted some California poppies (threw seed on the ground), looked through my seed collection. Watered areas under the eaves (dry as a bone since we put rain gutters in last year). Watered patio and house plants. Fed the winter-growers. Washed 2 days worth of dishes (not that bad really, we've only reheated stuff).

That's it? Oh, I made jackfruit tacos. They were meh. Not sure if it was the jackfruit I didn't like or the flavoring (chili and lime). Had a slight soapy aftertaste. Buh-bye. Enjoy the trash can. lol.

The last 2 days, I get up, have coffee, think "discipline", and open my laptop to my gym log. I read the activity of the day before, and it reminds me what I should be doing. Honestly I should probably open the page before I go to bed! So, boom! there it is front of my face.

Forgot to weigh
6 hours yard/patio plant work (nothing cleans the patio like company coming)

Yep, great idea. (previous post) I woke up thinking - it's going to rain tomorrow and exH/H is home from work and I need his help in the yard and I better get up and get outside before it starts to rain and....totally forgot to look at my gym log, or even get weighed. Some things never change!

162.8 (from 164, 12/28/16, >163.8>164.6>162.6)
2.42 miles, 19.11 minutes per mile (12/29/2016) >19.44>19.11

Took a different route today, with only slight inclines.

More yard work today, as well. 💪🏼

Sick again yesterday - nauseated and week.

The thought of working out is daunting. I worked in the garden today and I am wiped out. Maybe tomorrow. *snores*

Hi Paula - I hope you are feeling much better... I hate being sick.

Ha, Ca poppies will grow like weeds, as you know... I was digging around in my glove box for something and found a packet of black sunflower seeds I kept from last year to go feed the birds by hand at one of the parks last winter in Ohio...so I planted them in my barrel, they are actually coming up but I don't know how well they will do. We'll see. I had geraniums and marigolds that did well only thru May, then the sun killed them, in spite of screens over them. (the front is full West). So I'll enjoy something until the sun kills it this year too...

Jackfruit? I don't know what that is. The big cactus out back has cactus "apples" on it - I was lucky enough to get some before the birds - very sweet, and like kiwi, you eat the seeds...the outer lining inbetween the pinky red peel and the soft spongy fruit inside was kind of tasteless and a little soapy so I didn't eat that part. They weren't great - I ate that only when I didn't have any other fruit. The oranges are ready now so enjoying those.

Kat

162.8 (from 164, 12/28/16, >163.8>164.6>162.6>162.8)
2.05 miles, 19.28 minutes per mile (12/29/2016) >19.44>19.11>19.28

Waked with a friend up a long, slight incline/hill and back down...no back pain YAY

Kat, I have never eaten cactus fruit. There is some on the cactus against my fence right now...neighbor's plant.

Yeah, not much survives a western desert exposure. I had geraniums in Tucson, but on the east side.

30>35> Torso Track-------------------
10>12> squats------------------------wil come back to these. Burning back pain
12> alternating lunges, 6 per side--- and numbness in left leg ((
30>32>34 bridges
30>35>28 - I think I miscounted
30>35>35 elbow squats - sciatica - but done after stomach-lying leg lefts
Weighted arm exercises, 3 lbs:
13>14>18 Back Drops (elbows up)
7>8>8 Barbells
18>22 Bent arm lifts (seated, elbows on knees)
12>12 Pushouts
16>20 Chicken Wings
10>12>12 per side rowing
5>6>10 leg lifts, side-lying
5>8 leg lifts, stomach-lying - caused lower left back pain and numb left foot
14>16 Hand Squeezes (hold last one for 10)

I learned something today: I need to do these in order so I can see the progression of pain, if any. After doing the stomach-lying leg lifts, everything else hurt my lower back to some degree. Couldn't do the first 3. I only noted sciatica/numbness. So much for changing it up!
