Default total cereal

Hi, I've done Atkins before and now I'm deciding to add more carbs and do more of a general low carb approach. I am curious what you all think of total cereal for breakfast three days per week? The blueberry one has 30g per serving. And yes, I know it varies by individuals.

IMHO almost anything is better than cereal. How about eating yams or squash or something?

I think cereals like that are a horrible choice. Lots of sugar, not a lot of anything else. The only reason they have vitamins and minerals at all is because they're fortified, not because the ingredients are good. In other words, cereals are nothing but a sugary supplement.

If you must have cereal, many people report sucess with steel cut oats. If you soak them overnight they'll cook up in just five minutes.

Good luck!

There are some varieties of Kashi and Uncle Sam's that have 10 carbs per serving. And, they're actually pretty good! Is your tracker correct, though? If so, it might not be best to add extra carbs this early in the game.

If you must have cereal, try Specail K protein plus. I think it's 9 net carbs per serving and I love the taste.

It's up to you, but I know that I'd be starving well before noon if I ate cereal for breakfast. And then I'd head into lunchtime much more likely to cheat or eat off plan.

alright, according to this a "serving" is 30 grams and the amount of carbs in it is 23 grams, and a whopping half a gram of fat! (heavy sigh) .... you've barely begun your LC and you want to go back to eating this straight-carb junk? By the way, a bowlful is 3-4 times this so called "serving". I cannot say enough about how bad for you breakfast cereals like this are. Absolute utter garbage.

eta>> and the special K is garbage too. they all are.

there's no way I could do cereal while on this WOE. One bowl leads to another ... and the bowls keep growing!

I just remembered the high fiber cereal I used to get at Jewel. Bob's Red Mill Organic High Fiber Cereal. 5 grams of fat, 17 net carbs (10 grams of fiber) and 8 grams of protein. It says to make it with water, but I've used cream or whole milk to get some extra fat and protein in, and to thicken it.

They also have a Rice Bran cereal, which I'd never seen before. 3 grams of fat (.5 saturated), 4 net carbs (4 grams of fiber) with 1 gram of sugar and 2 grams of protein.

And, now that I've found the latter, I'm going to order a case of it for my daughters...

All the best qualities of breakfast cereal are interchangeable with the qualities of the cardboard box they come in.

Grains are drugs. Most excuses to have them are just that.

Aren't you a diabetic? Eating a high protein breakfast is the best way to keep your blood sugar stable. IMO cereal of any kind is the worst possible choice for breakfast for anyone, but for a diabetic it could be dire.

How about checking this thread for some breakfast ideas? There are plenty of cook ahead ideas there, so you don't need to be in too much of a rush in the morning.

All the best!

I used to often buy large sausages, you know, ones the size of bratwurst. Then I'd put them in the microwave for 2-3 minutes, flip and another minute or two. Very tasty breakfast with just about 0 effort.

Watch out for Kashi - that stuff is loaded with MSG for some reason.

Might as well have a snickers bar. Tastes a hell of a lot better and it's the same crap.

If you wanna up your carbs, have irish oatmeal, starchy veggies, more "normal" veggies, nuts, and legumes. You can easily hit 50 grams of carbs just by eating a lot of nuts and vegetables, or by having some LC treats like LC cheesecake.

Why would you waste your carbs on cardboard like Total?

BTW, I have a question. Dr. A talked a lot about Ezekiel bread. Maybe this would be a good carby breakfast option?

And you get more protein!
