"(Just for curiosity's sake...can someone tell me what Atkins says about exercise in this version? Is it 'non negotiable' like in the later version? Don't want to turn this into a warzone thread but I'm interested to see if his opinion changed from 72)"

I looked it up and he basically says to exercise because it makes you care about doing the diet better and sticking to it. There is very little on other benefits of exercise in the book. Some of this is the times - at the time, exercise was considered somewhat eccentric to many.

running was huge in the 70s when this diet came out. And jack lalane in the morning (whom I watched and followed) but it was much later that the aerobics craze hit. Thanks Jane Fonda.

Due to my heart condition I didn't exercise at all during my weight loss, BUT I am starting strength training to be less flabby.

I'm up a couple of pounds today, but I know it's just because I'm a bit constipated. I have gone back to using 4 teaspoons of cream in my coffee, and I'm going to add 1/2 cup of green beans when I have lunch. I know that will resolve my problem fairly quickly. My pants are noticeably looser!

As for exercise, I think I'm going to wait another week and then restart my strength training. The amount I can do is very meager compared to what other folks do, but it's better than nothing.

you know there is another book that also sells like crazy on the internet and that is Dr. Stillman's Quick Weight Loss Diet. If anyone has a copy of that - you could probably sell it for a nice "penny".

Goodluck to everyone today on your plan!

Truth is, I've tried his plan, and I can't stand it. I get so sick of just meat and eggs, that by the third day, I cannot stomach the thought of any more. That's not to say the plan isn't fine for those who enjoy it, though. It's just not for me as an individual.

The saving grace of Atkins '72, for me at least, is the fact that I can have a few veggies every day. I've never been a big veggie lover, and it's not unusual for me to go a day without any, but now and then, I get a desire for them.

I think a lot of people who get stalled and frustrated might like to look at the old plan.

My daughter, 16, is on the plan with me. She's lost about 30 pounds since middle of May and she's had some 'off' days. (quite a few) What a metabolism.

Is there a different between the book published in 1972/1973 and the one published in 1981?

Yes, in 72 he introduced revolution rolls. There are quite a few nice recipes in it.
