Geez, I've done that diet a few times, too. I think we called it the ice cream diet or some such nonsense.

ha, the only diet the air force ever offered me was by my civillian boss-I needed to lose 10 lbs in a week to get my orders to germany.

Ready for this?

sugar free jello and exlax.

I pooped green for a week.

but it worked.

Even more amusing? My NCOIC told me he uses slim fast shakes when he needed to lose a few pounds.

We have a copy of the Air Force Diet book (also called "The L-C Diet") and that's definitely not it. There are some recommended foods, but no strict menu. I think they recommended a carb count of around 80 per day.

Whatever happened to Baerdric?

My parents had that book lying around for years, probably since the 60s. I would imagine they tossed it when they moved out of their house into a smaller place.

Here's a newspaper page with an ad on it touting the diet

Amazon has the "Drinking Man's Diet" which I think was the same diet (it has several names)

I used to have the Royal Canadian Air Force booklet and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a "diet". It was merely a group of exercises they recommended to get and stay fit......and back in the 80's I followed that exercise program for quite awhile at home. I read the book cover to cover and have no recollection of a chapter that discussed "how to eat" per se. I don't have it anymore to substantiate that, but pretty sure it's not a "diet". Maybe that's why nothing comes up when you Google Royal Canadian Air Force Diet. Only the exercise program comes up.

I'll just post here even though this thread is really old, in case anyone else comes by who is interested, since none of the posters seemed really positive about the Air Force Diet, which brought me to this site in the first place: it's the first diet that worked for me - worked like a charm, actually!

Yes, I remember a small paperback book, diet plus exercises (was too lazy to do those). Very simple: 60 carbs a day, period. Like I say, with my body type - coming from a long line of carnivores - worked like magic! ☺
60 total carbs is pretty strict.. but I allowed myself a cheat meal every Wednesday, to keep from going crazy!

Lost 30 pounds at the time.. never felt hungry, weak or tired. Just missed my bagels & muffins ☺. As a side note, I noticed I felt a LOT better without wheat! And white sugar! - replaced it with unpasteurized honey.

Now I want something healthier, with more variety.. there's good & bad carbs after all.. I'm looking for a better structured plan. But for simple weight loss results.. the Air Force Diet was the grand-daddy of all the low carb efforts, and it worked!!

Welcome, Many different LC diets are used on this board. You have read Atkins, which is very structured in what is allowed in induction and how you "climb the ladder" to find your own carb tolerance. What did you like or not about that?
If you want more structure in terms of a limited food list, the plan in the back of Why We Get Fat, Dr Westman's clinic diet, fits the bill but it stays at 20g total carbs until you are near goal. Wheat Belly (highly recommend that book if you had problems with grains before) and Protein Power are popular plans, and all the various templates of Paleo, which can be low or higher carb, work. There is a plan comparison up top in the green bar, though dated, newer plans might not be there.
