Some people who do have a CAD day on Atkins do stay in ketosis. CAD/CALP's one hour rule fools the body into thinking they have not ingested carbs.

TBS, Mixing high fat Atkins with high carb CAD/CALP in one day results in "normal" diet and puts on weight. In fact, it's best not to mix plans within a one week span as some components are not compatible, i.e. eating more than 4 times a day; Atkins allowed/CAD excluded foods; ketosis taking 3-5 days to get back into after losing it; the danger of Atkins setting off cravings if not within the framework of CAD/CALP rules.

TBS. Many people do well on a lower carb CAD/CALP, i.e. no white stuff, lower glycemic foods, AS treats; utilize CAD/CALP rules on Atkins, i.e. avioding trigger foods, not eating more than 3-4 times a day, concentrate higher carb allowed foods in one meal; or use a rotation of CAD/CALP and Atkins periods, i.e, 2 weeks Atkins/1 week CAD; 12 days Atkins/2 days CAD. These are all successful plan combining strategies. And knowing and utilizing CAD/CALP rules is great for dealing with planned special or unplanned/emergency situations when on Atkins.

Reading Zuleikaa's response, I realize I'm doing a lower carb CALP with AS treats and diet pop (Splenda) at RM. Cool. I guess that happened as a result of starting out on Atkins.

This is what I plan on doing too (only without the diet soda and AS treats). I have 2 years Atkins under my belt and just can't bring myself to eat white flour/sugar every night! I'm planning on using good carbs at my reward meal (like South Beach carbs-sweet potato, whole grain bread or rolls, brown rice...) with the occasional treat or splurge on special occasions. How long have you been on CALP? Did you do Atkins long? Have you been losing doing LC CALP?

I liked CAD but jumped on the Atkins craze a few years back. I couldn't stick to Atkins and I have struggled worth weight loss for a couple years. I had forgot about CAD until I got back on the forum.

I actually jump between Atkins and CAD....on the weekends I do CAD especially when eating out... I then have a baked potatoe and dessert... I really enjoy the variety that CAD offers and I simply function better on higher carb levels... And I love fruit and so I incorporate fresh fruit usually at lunch sometimes... As someone else suggests, it is really about your personal preference...but about choosing good carbs the majority of the time...
