the one I bought from gnc is emerald laboritories virgin coconut oil. It's very smooth in texture, like a creamy coconut butter. It cooks eggs very well, gives them a unique but very good taste and i've been eating it strait as well. I like it in solid form though so I keep it in the fridge. I froze it too and that tasted good. I just started eating it the other day so I don't know if it's helping but it does make me feel pretty full acts as something sweet to eat.

I agree that Spectrum Naturals stuff tastes pretty bad.
I've been getting mine from Tropical Traditions and it's much much better. I get the expeller-pressed and it has hardly any taste at all.

I wish we could somehow issue a warning at the top of all the coconut oil threads to avoid the Spectrum Naturals brand! I wonder how many people have been turned off of coconut oil for good because of its awful taste! I did see on one natural products website that the spectrum brand was being sold to put on your hair as a conditioning treatment, but I think it smells too weird to put on my hair!

I ordered a huge amount from Tropical Traditions, thank God it seems to get good feedback (otherwise I would have wasted a lot of bones on it!!)

I have the Garden of Life brand also, and I think it tastes fine... just a nice mild coconut taste. I used it for baking over the weekend, and couldn't taste any coconut in the final product.

I've only tried Omega Nutrition oil, but I love the taste. Has anyone experienced any gastro-intestinal side effects from the coconut oil? I'm not sure if I was taking too much oil at first (love the taste), or if this is just my usual poor digestion.

I bought (and still have) a jar of the Spectrum stuff...it's nasty tasting..so I use it on my skin. I also boughgt (and need some more) of the Garden of Life Coconut oil..it's very coconutty and I LOVE it! I usually try to do 3Tbs in the morning...in a shake or something...it's the best!

I get Garden of Life, as it was mentioned, it has a mild, sweet coconutty tast to it. Depending on the temperature you keep it in, it can be anywhere from a milky liquid to a solid. I'm pretty sure vitacost still has it on sale until at least the end of the month

I love coconut oil, been using for about 6 weeks. First I tried GNC brand then I tried Vitamin World brand and love it. Vitamin World usually has it buy one get one half off so thats two 16 ozs for 18.00. GNC brand has no taste or smell. Vitamin World has a little smell (good) and tastes wonderful in my coffee and tea, adds sort of a nutty flavor. I love how it cooks eggs. There is a huge recipe thread at another popular low carb site and a check in, don't know if I am allowed to say the name here. Coconut oil suppresses my appetite and I have lost about 5 pounds.

Like I asked before your putting oil in your coffee?

Yes! In my coffee or green tea. It does settle on the top but I just stir it and drink. It ups your energy and endurance.

No weird texture but you can see oil floating on the top. The brand I got a GNC had no taste at all.

oh, so you want the kind that has a taste? DO you think they would have this at like an organic market?

Now that I tried the one with the taste I like it better. The one from vitamin world has a good flavor. I can only taste it in my coffee or tea, no taste when cooking with it. I like the price and the jar is easier to use. I will buy this brand unless they run out. Look around the other threads for others likes and dislikes, beware theres one out there they say tastes like soap. I'm not sure about the organic market, but worth a try.
