To answer the above question concerning the fats I use I will say that I believe like the Eades that saturated fats are fine for some people, but I am leery at times about telling everyone they are ok to eat liberally. For me I have never had trouble with them raising my LDL, but I know others it does.

Personally I believe this is mainly a genetic thing. I can get away with eating butter and lard and just about any animal fat and not have trouble with my LDL numbers, even when I was over 240 pounds my LDL levels were in the normal range. It used to really confuse doctors how I could be so over weight and have such normal blood pressure and cholesterol numbers. However I have friends who are not so lucky, and really had troubles with their cholesterol numbers until they eliminated saturated fat from their diet.

I compromise and modify the PP program a bit. I eat butter on a few things such as veggies and seafood, but I don’t cook with it, and I do not drown things in it. I cook with olive oil mostly. As far as dairy fat I limit the amount, not only does it seem to keep my weigh loss stalled if I consume too much, but also I just don’t like dairy as much and prefer not to consume it as much as olive oil. Other than cream in my coffee, I really do not use it much.

I think of all the programs Power Protein is the best, but I do incorporate parts of South Beach and part of Atkins into this WOE. I think everyone is unique and needs to do what is best for their own bodies.

I agree that we each need to find what works for us. I've read in numerous places (though can't cite anything at the moment) that saturated fat is only "dangerous" in the presence of carbs. High carbs plus high saturated fat can be very bad. Iin the "absence" of carbs, however, there's nothing wrong with saturated fats.

Again, things affect different people in different ways.

Geez, good thing I wandered out of the Java Room. Didn't know I was being summoned.

As for "doing" the protein minimums, all I do is look it up in a chart in Protein Power Lifeplan. According to your stats, you should have a minimum of 46 grams per meal. That's the equivalent of around 7 to 8 ounces of protein per meal. And that's your minimum. You can, and probably should, have more.

Come join us in the Java Room. You'll be sure to get an answer there. Most of us simply subscribe to that forum, and don't often think to venture out.

Good luck!

I'm curious too! I just started at a gym about 2 weeks ago, and she gave me a general outline of how many grams of sugar to eat per day (she gave me 35g. per day) and was stressing protein a lot.

I'm 5'2 and 128.

I'm doing cardio every trip to the gym (5 days a week) for about 30-35 min, and strength training every other trip to the gym.

Thanks!!

35 grams of sugar per day? Aaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!

Bawdy...help this girl. You have the book. Mine isn't here.

Jenyfer....carbs immediately turn to sugar when they hit your digestive system, so PLEASE don't eat sugar. Your 30 or so grams of good carbs will suffice.

Or am I wrong, BW?

I'm not Bawdy, but I do have the book . For a woman 5' 2" and 128 lb, PPLP says you should eat at least 27g protein at each meal.

The more detailed method for calculating your protein requirement that was given in the original PP book takes into account your level of activity, but requires a calculation of your lean body mass, so it's a bit more involved. For most people the simplified tables in PPLP are close enough.

It's complete nonsense. Even those who recommend low-fat, high-carb diets don't think the carbs need to come from sugar. I wonder if they really meant to say she should have 35g carbs per day?

I think that they were saying, not sugar itself... that the sugar that's IN food. Like how an orange or apple may have 16g of natural sugar in it, and to count that as part of how many grams of sugar (carbs) allowed in a day. Sorry for the heart attack haha!

Thanks Jenny...that's makes at least a little more sense. However, if you can eat NO sugar and limit your carbs from good things like veggies, you will do a LOT better. Did you say you have read Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution? If not, see if your library has a copy. My daughter was able to control her Type II diabetes for over 3 years with diet alone, no medications....just by following the PP Plan. She didn't eat any fruit except berries and not too many of them.

They don't tell you that those diabetes medications are very hard on what is left of your pancreas and just hurry the day when you will have to be on insulin to control it.
