Default Please be patient with the newbe questions. I'm still confused.

Coffee if black can be drank anytime? If you want your cream as as outside of the RM you can only drink what you can swallow withing a 15 minute period?

What about diet sodas, flavored waters, tea with as is that the same way?

Cream, half and half, cheeses limit to 2 oz a day period? Or can you have 2 oz with the 2 CM meals and then have more with the RM? If you can have more is there a limit you should have with the RM? Besides pigging out of course. Say I eat 2 oz during the day, would it be ok to have 2 oz more with the RW meal?

Now the real questions. LOL Just kidding.
How about suppliments? Are there any specifically that have to be taken? If so do you take them with a meal? Right now I take MANY, thru out the day. But will my body treat them as food, do I need to change that? I'm also concerned because some times they get stuck in my throat so I have to eat something ( I usually try to eat lettuce it helps) but then mybody would treat it as food, since it is food. Suggestions? I'm afraid to take them all at once because I feel they just get washed out. Wether that is true or not I don't really know. Could be one of those missconceptions. Hey I have a lot of those.

Just a note, I do plan on reading the book. I know it's important. But I can't help that my mind is going a mile a minute and I keep wondering about this and that. I really am working on getting in the right frame of mind to be able to make a great transition. The more prepared I am mentally to make the change the smother it should be. At least I sure hope so. I don't want to be a piggy and mess up with this.

I'm answering only for myself, things that work for me. They may not work for you, hope it helps!

Coffee if black can be drank anytime? If you want your cream as as outside of the RM you can only drink what you can swallow withing a 15 minute period?

I drink 2 cups every morning, with heavy whipping cream.

What about diet sodas, flavored waters, tea with as is that the same way?

I drink maybe one diet soda a month, but I do like plain, unflavored seltzer water (san pelligrino is my favorite) with a twist of lemon or lime.

cheeses

I don't specifically limit myself, but I generally don't have more than 4 oz in a day. Any more and I get kinda burned out on cheese.

How about suppliments? Are there any specifically that have to be taken? If so do you take them with a meal?

I don't take supplements right now. I have in the past. Do you swallow yours with water? It helps with the swallowing and keeping stuff from getting stuck in the throat.

the book

yeah, get the book!

What she said, lol!!!

Re supplements, I ony take them with food. For one they work better that way for most and some supplements have a bit of sugar, starch or fillers.

I do take my suppliments with water. But I take many so they do some times get stuck. But working them into only during meal times can be done.

I'm still not getting it about the soda/flavored water. Can those be consumed ouside of the RM? Or not.

Thanks
Deana

If you really really really like flavored sodas and water, at least make certain to check the label for carbs. I tend to steer clear of them - sometimes one of the fake sugars will "trick" my body into thinking I've eaten something sugary, especially outside the RM.

I've gotta admit, I do like something fizzy (diet Pepsi is a special weakness) with either spicy food (esp Thai green curry chicken) or pizza. I don't eat either one very much, though.

How do you know if your body reacts to it like being food? What are some of the signs? I guess maybe I don't listen to my body very well.

Well, my doctor told me to eat this way. I guess because I went in and described symptoms between meals, including extreme shakiness, dizziness, and ravenous hunger (this was before CAD). He said I was getting "reactive hypoglycemia". This is would be a couple hours after a meal (a standard American meal, with carbs). So I guess I know the symptoms of hypoglycemia, at least the way my body "talks" to me about it. Some folks apparently get moody, too.

And I get a little bit of that when I have, say, a mid-afternoon diet soda w/o any other food to "buffer" the effect. Fortunately, I know the symptoms so well, and how I'm likely to react, that I rarely have just the soda, I will have something else at the same time (high protein, high fat, high fiber, usually all three, like a large salad or something).

I think some of this is in the book. Remember, I had to learn how to listen to my body, too. Before my doc told me about CAD, I would just cave to the ravenous hunger, and eat a lot of food, usually high-carb; then two hours later, I'd be ravenous again, and eat another high-carb snack or meal. Then, two hours later ....

(do you see a pattern here, LOL? I don't know if you see any patterns that are similar - this was just my experience, results do vary ....)

I will have to sit down and think about it. The main problem is I've been doing Atkins for a year now and can honestly say I didn't pay attention before so I can't say for sure now since I already eat low carb. MMMM This is going to be tricky.

I do understand about eating in the cycle of carbs. Eat get tired eat get tired. One reason I like CAD is no snacking. That woun't be a problem. Especially since lc'ing I've learned to not snack that much at all. Unlike before, always NEEDED that afternoon sugar fix.

I guess there's a lot of little things that I "listen" to, after a meal.

Do I feel mentally alert, alive, vs. sleepy, groggy?

Do I feel like I could eat more food, or am I satisfied?

Do I feel strong in my body? Could I go for a two mile walk without feeling exhausted afterwards? (two miles is about 1/2 hour for me, give or take)

Do I feel like I'm digesting the food well - or do I feel gassy, bloated, or otherwise uncomfortable? Does it feel like things are, um, moooooving along OK?

There are other things I pay attention to, as well, like, do I feel thirsty, in which case I'll get a drink of water.

It's the little things. by the way, thanks for helping me focus my thoughts, here, I hadn't really thought about it much.

That's funny. We know things but some times forget to think about it. I guess that is one think about Atkins that I didn't come away with. The importance of learning to listen to my body. It really is a good thing to learn to do. Especially if I do start adding higher carbs into my diet. I need to learn to know what my body is ok with and what it's not ok with.

Hey, another thought I just had. By no means am I trying to be a smarty pants here. I know gum and mints are out unless if the RM but what about mouth spray? I wasn't sure if the body would take that as a meal, since they do have flavor and maybe get the saliva glands going. I guess what I'm really trying to work around is bad breath. I brush my teeth at work after lunch but by afternoon I usually chew gum, one to not snack two for breath reasons. So maybe I would change to using mouth spray, I know what I have doesn't contain surgar. What do ya think?

Thanks
Deana

OH PS Vicki, why no journal? I was going to go visit you there then realize you don't have one.

Oh, that's right, the breath mint thing - don't they make sugarless ones? Each one has a very very small amount of sweetener, unlike a soda. they don't seem to trigger much for me. It's either that, or carry a toothbrush. By the way, not to be even more of a smarty-pants, but doesn't toothpaste have sweetener in it, too?

I'm sure your right about sugar in toothpaste. For the most part I try not to swallow that. LOL But really, I brush right after eating so my body would think it's still the meal. Right, am I getting my thinking straight? Please straighten me out if I'm wrong. I'm thinking that I'm starting to grasp this way of thinking. It's all about not eating too many meals to make your body produce insulin? Sheesh now that I'm thinking I'm getting scared that I'm wrong. Oh, I always say, the more I read and the more I think the more confused I get.

Ok your journal, I don't understand if you have one why you don't have the little icon under your posts to show where it's at?

OK, I've never personally noticed a problem from toothpaste - I'm guessing that it's more-or-less ok, plus you spit it out anyway.

as for the journal thingy, I'm scanning the page here, and not seeing a way to start one. ???? Maybe when I'm old enough, I'll understand. That's what my mommy always told me, anyway. (LOL, ROTFLMAO - I'm 47 now.)
