Meg - That might be fun, too, but it might be easier for people from LI and NJ if they don't have to shlep into the city and then back out again (ok, here I go assuming everyone uses public transportation!). Just my 2 cents.

Some random thoughts:

I do like the idea of picnic/activity kind of thing. Central Park, Prospect Park, or what have you? Randall's/Wards Island Park is another possible spot, but it's harder to get to (bus). I like MyJourney's suggestion of Chelsea Piers, too.

We could meet for lunch at a restaurant and go to the park afterwards, and people could do either or both, depending on their availability/inclination/budget.

Cultural/play: The Brooklyn Museum just had a complete renovation of its entrance, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is right next door, and both are adjacent to Prospect Park. If people want to stay in Manhattan, both the Museum of Natural History and the Met are adjacent to Central Park.

Trainerdan, it's a good thing that it will most likely be hot enough for you to have to remove a lot of your clothing.

Central park is awesome but I am not sure you are allowed to picnic there.

Also we may need a backup plan in case it rains or it gets tooo humid. NYC in the summer gets REALLY humid and sticky.

Recently the weather has been great! I hope it wont change!!!

According to the Parks Dept. website, a permit is needed if more than 20 people are expected to attend. A permit costs $25, and takes 3-4 weeks to process. I've picnicked (in small groups) in both Central Park and Prospect Park (and seen plenty of people doing the same), and there's never been a problem. I personally don't think it would be a problem without a permit, but I know others may be more concerned. I also don't think it would be a problem to apply for a permit if the response for this is overwhelming.

What do others think?

LOL Madie!

Now we have to decide..loin cloth or no loin cloth? Guess it depends on the humidity! We'll just follow Dan's example.

I'm all for Central Park..sounds great!

Don't follow my example. You'll become fallen women.

Looking forward to the trip, whenever it is ... where ever it is ... and whatever we do.

We're bad at deciding huh? LOL.

Does anyone here have good organizational skills? Anyone? Help?!hehe

That is strange about Central Park not allowing picnics? What do they expect us to do?? *Divina has lots of ideas * LoL
