Bobby was a Skye Terrier owned by John Gray an Edinburgh Constable. John Gray died of TB and was buried in Grayfriars Kirkyard. His family left Edinburgh but Bobby refused to leave and for over 14 years he watched over his master's grave. Kind locals cared for him. A much visited monument commemorating Bobby's quite remarkable loyalty can be seen in Greyfriars Churchyard.
