Default Glaucoma

I've known for years that I'm at risk for glaucoma, and according to the eye doc, my risk factors are now getting bad. In other words, I don't have glaucoma yet, but it's just a matter of time.

As far as I know, it's hereditary and there is no dietary link, but I thought I'd ask here - just in case. If anyone knows of nutritional helps to delay or cure the onset of glaucoma, I'm all ears.

I read recently that glaucoma is yet another eye disease related to high blood sugars and diabetes. Try googling glaucoma + diabetes. At any rate, you're already doing what you should be doing to bring down blood glucose.

We know you are taking the BEST preventative known by following Dr. Bernstein's diet and lowering your insulin levels, blood sugars, risk of diabetes, etc.
Dr. Mercola has these tips:

My husband's eye doctor just told him at least 10mg of lutein a day (he's 66). My multi didn't have any so I've added it, Walmart has 20mg caps of lutein by itself, I don't know the other one, but I eat lots of eggs and already supplemented Omega-3, and do the other foods as well.

Didn't Paul Harvey push lutein? Or a multi with it. I don't take a multi so I'll check it out at WalMart.

Thanks for the super-fast replies!

Even before I was diabetic I knew about retinopathy, but didn't know until today that there is a link between diabetes and glaucoma! So based on what I've just read, I have lutein on my shopping list and for lunch I had a raw egg nog made with almond milk. Not bad!

But I really hate washing the blender. I keep hearing about stick blenders - do they work as well as regular blenders?

I fought that stick blender for years ( who needs another gadget?) but I must say, making mayo in the jar used to store it and not having to clean all the parts of my food processor, made the purchase worthwhile! With lots of frozen fruit in a protein drink, the stick took longer to work through it, but was amazed that it worked at all.

I have narrow or closed angle glaucoma, I have had an iridotomy in both eyes. Glaucoma is heredity, however no one else in my family has the angle closure kind. I do not have diabetes, but am insulin resistant. I am going to talk to my Ophthalmologist about Lutein.

I see that I posted more than 2 years ago asking about stick blenders. Sometime after that I did buy one - I love it! I've used it for salad dressings & cream soups. My regular blender has been in a box for well over a year now - I don't miss it.

I have no idea if it's the lutein, the lc diet, or just getting older, but my vision seems to be getting better. Haven't been checked for glaucoma recently.

Aren't they useful little gadgets?

Great news that you think your eyes are getting better! I finally saw my eye doc a few months ago (it had been six years! ) and my eyes are still 20/20, the inside like a young persons. Of course, when I suggested HE should give up sugar and all grains (and recommend his patients do so) I got the "couldn't give up some favorite carby food" line.

Since we now have a Costco,I have been buying trunature Lutein (25mg) and Zeaxanthin (5g) in the recommended ratio. There is an extra off coupon every few months inc. this month, Costco includes shipping for supplements. Who knows if this brand is good or doing anything...but the detailed explanation and description on site sure sounds good Know you are "out there" in Washington and not near the corporate office, but maybe someone you know has a membership and orders. https://www.costco.com/trunature-Vi....100003048.html
