Wink Hi I am new here!

Hi everyone! I am very very very new to the adkins diet/ low carb diet. I work at a pharmacy and see many people who have lost weight with this diet. I would like to lose around 10 pounds. But my only problem is that just about everything I eat is carbs. So I have a feeling I will need support. How do I start out????? What foods can I eat and what foods do I completely advoid? Thanks for all the advice.

~Allison

Hi Allision

If you are serious about loosing weight on a low carb diet then you need to choose a plan, buy the book, read it and then get on with it. Have a look at the quick link to the right - Which low-carb plan is right for me?

Basically this is not a quick fit diet, but a life change plan. You can loose the weight, but go back to eating as you were before and the weight will go back on again. Many on this site know that, irrespective of what diet they have tried in the past.

Basically you can eat most meats, poultry, fish, eggs, cheese with salad and other vegetables. There are a few to watch that are considered starchy. In general you do not eat potatoes, pasta, bread, sweets, cakes, biscuits, etc anything with either starch or sugar in.

You do not have a lot to loose, so just cutting back on the sweet foods and bread, pasta and potatoes may do this for you. The success of this way of life is to minimise the production of insulin in your body.
