Cool Soy Yogurt(Homemade)

Does anybody know the carb count of plain soy yogurt. I know with the Dairy yogurt, you are supposed to subtract at least half from the total amount on the label. I like to make my own yogurt and was wondering where I could get an effective accurate carb count. Thankyou in advance for your help, Judy

Judy, wouldn't your starting point be the number of carbs in the soymilk, divided by the number of cups of yogurt it made?

I know that some people do a subtraction of the carbs because of the active cultures, but I have always just counted all the carbs in homemade yogurt made from dairy (half and half) and in kefir. The plain stuff works out to 1g carb per ounce, and I figure if it's really less than that, I've got a little 'cushion' in my day.

Hi Gaelen, I think you may have a point, since the starter doesn't have any carbs. I was just wondering if you subtract anything because of the live active cultures. Until I know for sure, I guess I won't. Thankyou for taking the time to answer my question, Judy

Judy, I usually don't subtract anything for the active cultures, just incorporate the count into my day. However, Westsoy Organic Vanilla unsweetened soymilk is only 1g ECC (net carbs) per 8 oz I think...not looking right at the box, but that number sounds right. So 'carb count' might not even be an issue in that case, if the whole quart is only 4g ECC. With regular dairy, a 64 oz. of whole milk makes 40 oz. yogurt, and 32 oz. half and half makes about 18-20 oz of very thick and creamy yogurt, more or less. I'd think that whole soymilk would give you approximately the same yields, so you'd be dividing the carbs in a quart of soymilk between two+ cups of yogurt.
