Default Food Choices

Hello, well I have just completed 2nd day of induction. So far I feel great. Just for the heck of it, I tried a ketostix. It shows that I am in ketosis!! Must be a guy thing.

Anyway, my question is and this might sound pretty dumb, Whats to eat?

I have looked over the recipies for low carb. I am a young guy who isn't very good around the kitchen. Most of the recipies call for stuff I dont have or may cost quite a bit.

I am kinda low budget. Is there anybody out there like me? Someone who wants to do this diet but kinda useless in the kitchen? Or somebody with totally easy recipies?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi Cableguy

Don't let all the wacko ingredients throw you for a loop.

The simplest way to approach this WOE is to go to the grocery store and only walk around the outside aisles. Produce, meat, dairy. Grab a few boxes of sugar free jello and a couple of jars of Hellman's mayo. Then head for the check out.

Meat, salad, veggies, cheese, eggs, butter, creams, will keep you in good stead for the first little while. If you want to get adventurous after that, then you can start to gather the soy flours and other bits to bake with.

Cook meat, make salads, steam veggies. Put butter on everything ncluding the meat. For a change, mix some garlic with your butter. Hard boil bunches of eggs at a time, shell them and keep them in the fridge. They are great to slice on the salad, eat in your hand, or blend with mayo and onion and eat with a fork.

Make your own whipping cream by whipping the liquid stuff and adding a little splenda and some vanilla extract. Slather it on the jello.

it gets easier

You made it seem very easy!!

Should I watch out for how much cream I use? By reading other posts it seems like I should be carefull.

HI Cableguy. Yes, you should probably watch how much cream you use. Check your carb counts too. I think for a lot of us, there can be a tendency to stall if too much dairy is used. I was using whipped cram on jello every night, and went into a major stall at about 6 weeks. I think the cream was part of it, and also the sweetener in the jello. I guess it comes down to all things in moderation.

Exclamation Check Whipping Cream

Check the side of your whipping cream carton you might be surprise to see dextrose, yes the carton like your milk comes in. All three producers, in my area Baxter's, Farmer's and Scotsburn all have it in them. I thought that the "can stuff" or the stuff that's available nationwide Dream whip or the stuff in the "little boxes" might have this. But not "whipping cream". I haven't found one that is just cream yet. I'm still looking though.

Congrats on starting atkins.. you will get the hang of cooking and eating pretty quick. The main problem I have is making food for my family and for me at the same time.. Im usually cooking 3 different meals

Stick to the basics as the previous posts mention... I eat alot of salad with sliced chicken breast, sliced egg, bacon and sometimes a little cheese... and REAL salad dressing.. boy it tastes so much better than that low fat stuff...

I do have a question... have any of you been able to find real cream? The only cream we have in my area is light cream or whipping cream. I would like some real heavy cream but have not been able to find it in any of our grocery stores..
