Good news! I just called The Rugby Beach Club Grille and they have no problem with our bringing a cake for the "birthday"..

I made the reservation for 14 people but they understand that the number may change - I will confirm closer to the date. I also discussed seating/location and they are going to try to get us on the heated patio area, which imo is the best area for a large-ish group. When I was there before, they had butted a table up to a corner booth plus added 2 small high tables with stools in the same area [NOT the patio]. That wasn't very good, since the group was too split up. We also saw other groups sitting at high rectangular tables on bar-type stools. Because of that experience, I wanted to make sure we had more comfortable seating this time. The person I spoke to said they would call me back to let me know what they come up with.

One more note - if I recall correctly, they charge a 15% service charge for groups greater than 8. I don't have a problem with this, since it is what I would tip normally anyway.... but I did want to mention it up front. I will confirm that fact with the restaurant when I hear from them again, too.

That's pretty common for most restaurants. For some reason, servers seem to get the short end on large parties.
