My sister says "moderation in everything" and so eats everything. This philosophy hasn't worked for her. She's 60-70 pounds overweight and still recites that when I suggest she might want to give up her granola bars.

I guess that would be me. I never really got it going with LC and my stats so that.

Love to eat? Hamburgers and Spaghetti w/meat sauce, Meatballs subs, Pizza, All the usual suspects. THe fatty and sweet asian stir-fried food. Lots of soft drinks

Avoid Veggies, water, smaller size portions, you can add exercise to that. I am all that failure can represent sad to say.

Yet, I still peruse these pages.

I do see a pattern; all cheap, pre-made, comfort foods. (Which, of course, used to be my pattern!)

Meals like mac 'n' cheese, mashed potatoes, pasta pasta pasta. Meat is always diluted with added grains (like meatloaf or meatballs) or breaded & fried (like chicken fingers and fried chicken.) Vegetables are rare unless they are starchy ones like potatoes and peas.

BREAD AT EVERY MEAL.

My parents (father is severe T2/cardiovascular disease with complications)... Lots of cereal, fruit, pasta, potatoes, and another "bread at every meal." Huge portions. My mother claims to not know what a carb is despite me trying to simply explain it to her any time she brings up diet, and she refuses to accept that fruit has sugar in it. She also makes EVERYTHING fat free as much as possible including cream cheese, and they use a 3 lb tub of imitation butter spread every week . Since she had an accident last year she has gained at least 40-50 pounds and every time I talk to her asks me how she can lose the weight. I've pretty much given up, the only way they will attempt to alter their WOE is if I moved in with them to do all their cooking/shopping .

in my peer group (20's and 30's), the overweight friends tend to eat more bread and drink more beer than the slimmer friends.

In terms of true obesity, i am thinking mostly of my middle aged personal training clients....most are attempting some low fat program or another. Of course, who knows how much they truly stick to it- i have a feeling many lie to me about diet....

My aunties cupboards & fridges are loaded with fat free everything and Weight Watchers stuff.

Otherwise, definitely bread, lots of it. Crackers (Nips, Wheat Thins), pretzels, sugary dressings, desserts. They eat a combination of everything. Like a breading coated fried or baked chicken breast (or grilled w/sugary BBQ sauce), a mound of mashed potatoes, corn and a dessert, like some caramel/chocolate/peanut butter Cool Whip creation.

ETA: forgot to list what they avoid. Vegetables, real butter, fat on meat, olive oil (this I just don't get), anything sugar free because it just doesn't "taste right".

Wow how did I forget BREAD...and bread at every meal. Toast/english muffin/bagel at breakfast, bread for sandwich at lunch, dinner roll or garlic bread at dinner.

It wasn't a matter of wanting bread, it was required. If we didn't have fancy artisan bread, we used sliced bread, even for burgers and breakfast sandwiches. I used to make a lot of home made dough, to make matters worse.

Me at 211:

Bread and butter; everything I baked (brownies, cookies); cereal/granola; Breyer's Natural Vanilla ice cream with peanut butter stirred in; McDonald's Cheeseburgers; Quesadillas & Bean Burritos from Del Taco; Jack in the Box Tacos; hot dogs, pizza and more pizza: this stuff in addition to meats, poultry, cheese, yogurt, veggies, nuts, and fruit. Oh, LOTS of fruit!

I was *big* overeater.

I have always been a vegetable lover but I used to eat an unreal amount of crap with my brussel spouts! I loved European style breads - still hanker for the texture of it. Nachos! OMG, the piles of nachos I could put under my belt! Real mashed potatos...even instant mashed potatoes. Biscuits with butter and honey or jam. Cherry cobbler crusted with coarse sugar and drizzled with cream. Fire baked pizza with crust as thin and crisp as a cracker. I remember these all with an odd sort of fondness...

But they are all part of my past. I can't even imagine eating them now. But I still like looking at pictures of "fine" food and continue to subscribe to several high end cooking magazines. I guess it's my version of porn.

They love: fast food drive-though meals (burger and fries or onion rings), macaroni and cheese, donuts, cake, cookies, sugar-y cereals, frozen 'instant' sort of dinner meals (ie. frozen lasagne etc.), cola, ice cream, desserts, cookies etc. Pizza and Chinese food delivered. Bread too - easy to make a quick meal if you can just make a sandwich. Coffee and tea with lots of whitener (the powdered kind) and sugar. Also like boxed pasta meals (such as Hamburger Helper, Tuna casserole or any kind of 'instant' pasta meal where you can "just add water" or "just add tuna" etc.) Vegetables are canned cream corn or once in a rare while, there might be some carrots if there's company coming over. Salads are also only a cursory thing for 'company' as well.

They avoid: vegetables like the plague, salads, olive oil, balsamic or other vinegars, fresh fruit, fish, water, unsalted nuts, fresh cooked meats, eggs at home (only at a restaurant), anything that has to be home-cooked. Do not like sparkling mineral water, unsweetened tea or coffees. Will not cook meat at home really - other than ground beef - usually in some sort of 'meal in a box' type of thing. No salads ever, and do not know how to cook broccoli or other vegetables.
