Talking Atkins + I.F.

I´ve been trying intermittent fasting for about 1,5 year and the results are tremendous . I was stalled some 8 kgs above my current weight , doing the Atkins mantainance , and I find it REALLY hard to

to only reduce my carbs , but continue eating 3 to 4 times a day , so I try to eat only 1 to 2 times a day lately , and , besides being "easier" to eat this way than reducing carbs to extremely low levels , I find a great improvement in mood and well being . So I can say my diet today is basically Atkins mantainance , plus Intermitten Fasting .

wtg, sounds like you found a sweet spot! I'm still kind of experimenting with things but find eating less often also help me think about food less for some reason. You'd think it would be the opposite but it's not, at least for me

IFing is also easier when you are eating an Atkins, LCHF or ketogenic diet, since with higher fat you aren't hungry every 2-3 hrs. Many of us were IFing before it was a "thing" because we forgot to eat some meals because we weren't hungry, craving or thinking about food every waking moment.

I got down to one meal and a small high-protein late breakfast like cheese, nuts or jerky. One big meal a day (23/1) doesn't work for me now as well as it used to -- possibly due to my age and digestion. I used to get hungry at night too, but lately that hasn't been a problem with some protein/fat in the mornings.

It worked well for me in maintenance too, although I was eating 300 carb/day. I maintained 5 yrs doing this. I had my greatest physical strength at this time also. I could bicep curl 20lbs, 3 sets of 20.

The only issue I had was that I couldn't sleep. I had very low good/bad cholesterol. My dr said I would eventually become very ill.

It's a match made in heaven, and almost essential before starting a fast unless you don't mind that it's tortuous.

I do the same, but this week I've slacked off and now my weight loss has stalled. Still carefully watching carbs and calories, but this week I've made no progress (no gain either, but I feel like I've wasted a week when there's no loss). I read in Taubes' "Why We Get Fat," that IF often helps people break weight loss plateaus, so I guess I'd better get back to it. I was doing 16 hour daily fasts.
